Almost every home in Kerala had mango trees, jackfruit trees, coconut trees, and banana plants. Children spent their days climbing trees, plucking ripe mangoes, eating sweet jackfruit, and enjoying nature with family and friends. Fresh fruits were not bought from shops in those days. They came straight from the backyard.Ammamma still remembers the delicious chakka (jackfruit) dishes, mango recipes, banana fritters, and homemade snacks her mother lovingly prepared for her during childhood.
