3 Guys Before The Game - Remembering Jerry West (Episode 557)

Darian DeVries can finally take a deep breath. Since being hired as West Virginia University's head basketball coach on March 24th, DeVries has been operating at full speed.  He has completely retooled the roster, and hired a coaching staff.  The good news is that he likes what he has built.  And, oh yeah, he can finally just coach his team. Fortunately, WVU has an overseas trip next month which gives the Mountaineers 10 additional practice days. In this episode, Hoppy Kercheval and Tony Caridi sit down with DeVries to learn about why he accepted the position and how he'll build the program. It's an insightful look inside the process with plenty of answers to the questions Mountaineer fans have been asking.

She was a top-5 national basketball recruit in high school, but she decided to play volleyball instead.She hired a former professional baseball player, who never played volleyball, to join her first coaching staff. Jen Greeny, West Virginia's new volleyball coach, has made some surprising decisions during her carrer and they've all worked fantastically. Now six months into her new job in Morgantown, the building of the WVU program is operating at full speed. The new coach knows the challenges that lie ahead, but her experience gives her the confidence to know she will succeed. In this episode, Greeny visits Brad Howe and Tony Caridi for an in-depth conversatioin on her career and decision to make Morgantown her new home. 

It's been a storybook season for West Virginia University golf coach Sean Covich.  The Mississippi native, hired to restart the Mountaineer program nine years ago, has guided his squad to the championship round of the NCAA tournament. It's just the second time in school history that a Mountaineer golf team has reached this round.  The only other time it happened was 1947.  So, yeah, it's a big deal. In this episode, Covich reflects on building the WVU program and the significance of this season's accomplishments.  Listener questions and comments complete the show.
