Steve Schmidt joins Scott Galloway for a wide-ranging conversation about the political reckoning he believes is coming — and what must happen next. With the midterm elections just 35 days away, Steve explains why he believes the Trump coalition is collapsing, where unexpected Democratic victories could emerge and why the election will be less an embrace of the Democratic Party than a repudiation of Donald Trump and MAGA. But winning is only the beginning. Steve and Scott discuss what accountability should look like if Democrats take control of Congress, including investigations into corruption and abuses of power, congressional oversight, ethics reform and new limits on presidential power. They also take on Mark Carney’s leadership, the war with Iran, Xi Jinping, America’s declining power abroad and the dangerous new world taking shape after two years of Trump. The larger question: Can America simply move past the Trump era — or must it fundamentally reform the institutions that allowed it to happen? On today's episode of "Dead Air" Steve Schmidt and Dean Blundell talk about the final weeks before the midterms — and what must come next. Congress must come back to life. The Article I branch must be prepared to impose its constitutional authority on the Article II branch. That means oversight. Investigations. The power of the purse. And accountability from hour one. The future of the country depends on Donald Trump hearing a word he has rarely heard: no. They also discuss China, Iran, America’s position in the world, and the deeper cultural crisis unfolding at home. Brought to you by the Save America Movement. Trump pulls out the White House tour and a military flyover for Chinese President Xi Jinping. Cool planes, right? Xi? Xi, did you see my bombers? Then there’s Nancy Mace’s new podcast, "Get Maced," where she puts on a Catwoman costume and explains why the Iran war needs to end — just not until after the election. It’s a good laugh until you remember this is real life and that is an actual sitting member of Congress. Steve Schmidt and Dean Blundell also turn to Renée Good’s mother speaking out about her daughter’s murder by an ICE agent, and what could happen when a new Congress takes over the House, including investigations and accountability for Trump administration officials like Kash Patel and Tom Homan. From Xi’s field trip to "Get Maced" to what accountability could look like in the next Congress, Steve and Dean are here for it all. Don’t miss it. Brought to you by the Save America Movement. What happens if Democrats take control of Congress? Rep. Robert Garcia tells Steve Schmidt they’re already preparing. The ranking Democrat on House Oversight lays out four major investigative fronts: Trump family financial dealings, the Epstein files, corporate corruption, and allegations involving DHS and ICE. But the conversation goes much further. Rep. Garcia says Congress may need hundreds of investigators to follow the money, examine DOGE and pursue wrongdoing across the government. He confirms that Democrats are actively discussing how to use some of Congress’s most powerful and rarely invoked contempt authorities against people who defy its subpoenas. This is a fascinating preview of what congressional oversight could look like under a Democratic majority — and a conversation about whether Congress is prepared to reclaim powers it has allowed to atrophy.
