How does physical therapy help athletes like Ronda Rousey, George Saint-Pierre or Conor McGregor? Why is it important to involve physiotherapists in the training of athletes before a fight and after the fight as well? Heather is the Director of Physical Therapy Center of the UFC. The UFC managed to establish mix martial arts as a respected and highly valued sports discipline gaining popularity across the globe. It is only natural that they would set the standards of care regarding physical functionality for athletes in this sport. Heather explains how she transitioned from olympic athletes program to the UFC. The beginnings were not easy, as many athletes were not familiar with a physical therapist, yet her and her team managed to gain the trust they needed to increase the performance of the athletes. Heather shares her views on the "hot vs cold" controversy and clarifies how electro-stimulation can be used. In her opinion, a lot of doctors don't know enough about the level of professionalism in physical therapy and neglect to cooperate and communicate more with experts in this field, often with severe consequences. How quickly can the modern medicine detect bacteria? Why is the communication between bacterial colonies so important to understand? Fatima approached a bio-chemical phenomenon in her own way, her background as a physicist, her drive and perseverance made her discoveries worthwhile.  She developed a sensor that makes it possible to detect bacteria in any sample within 60 seconds, even in early stages, where other more commonly known methods would not show the results. Instead of simply gazing on the marvels of nursing innovation, we have mudded through some topics together that could be considered as difficult. Bonnie explained me how the generational gap influences expectations especially in communication. I wanted to know if ageism poses a problem for nurses and if it is really such a great idea for nurses to become business owners. How much more transparency is required for medicine to truly help the patient? Are doctors afraid of losing their privileges?  Cait and I dive into the pros and cons of OpenNotes. Imagine that as a patient you could access the transcripts from all your clinically relevant moments with a physician or therapist freely and at any moment. It is possible that patients would engage much more with their health, not only prepare for next visit at the doctors office but also double check on their previous conversation with the clinical staff. In Cait's experience, working with over 200 health institutions in the US, OpenNotes brought a lot of benefits on both sides. Meanwhile, some people remain sceptical about sharing patient's notes, afraid of increasing the administrative efforts or dealing with obnoxious patients. Time and practice will show, if complete transparency is the right way, how to change patients' engagement with health services for the best. Wie wird heute die Makuladegeneration behandelt? Warum sollten sich mehr Ärzte als Unternehmer versuchen? Diese und weitere Fragen werden in dem angenehmen Talk beantwortet.  Wirklich ein breites Themenfeld zeichnet diesmal das angenehme Gespräch mit Robert, der als Facharzt für Ophthalmologie eine Marktlücke entdeckt hat. Oder sollte man es lieber Verbesserungspotenzial nennen? Jedenfalls ist die Therapie der Makuladegeneration eine aufwendige Sache, da man alles sehr gründlich sterilisieren muss. Genau da setzte Robert mit seinem Team an und versuchte mittels 3-D Printing einen Prototyp herzustellen, arbeitete dabei auch mit Feedback von den Fachkollegen und Patienten.  Es ist nicht einfach ein Produkt herzustellen aber die danach folgenden Schritte der Massenproduktion, Vermarktung und Etablierung sind ja auch nicht ohne Tücken.  Es ist dennoch erfreulich zu sehen, wie junge passionierte Menschen die Medizin im Hintergrund vorantreiben.
