ML182 - Maul Shadow Lord - S1E8 - The Creeping Fear

What do you call the penulitimate episode to the penultimate episode? The prepenultimate episode? That's what this one is, definitely the big setup for what's coming in the next two finale episodes! We have everyone on the run. Maul trying to get away from the Inquisitors and back to his people. The Lawsons, Devon and Daki trying to get away from the Empire. It's a tense chase sequence all the way through!  But we also see Maul really suffering from his fears of abandonment and betrayal. The same weaknesses he's suffered his whole life. It's plagued him. It's ate away at his sanity. It's crippled him when he needs to be strong.  We are seeing just how much of a tragic story Maul has lived through. And it helps us understand him all the more. But this is not a redemption story. It's just giving so much depth to a villain that most usually don't get, and that's why this show is so great! Send in your thoughts to the show! It's as if this is Maul's own personal version of The Empire Strikes Back! He loses almost everything in this episode as the Empire closes in and his team is dropping like flies, and his temporary allies abandon him. What's a former Sith Lord to do? Not only that, but his droid parts are faultering, and he feels the pain, limiting his fighting abilities, and the Inquisitors take advantage. Stakes are rising fast!  Marrow shows up uninvited at the Lawson apartment, and he's not interested in appetizers! Lookout! Yikes! The light saber duels in this one are simply stunning. Lots of action and lots of great character moments, as we see the group paired off, with Lawson running with Master Daki, while Devon tries to protect Rylee.  This is what Star Wars is all about, in one of the best episodes so far! The Empire has landed. And it's not good for the citizens of Janix. Nor is it even good for the police. Interrogations begind. Answers are demanded. And if you don't give them what they want, or is satisfactory, well, you are taken away...or as they like to say, been relocated. Maul's window for escape is narrowing, but he wants to get close to Devon first before he loses this opportunity to turn her to the darkside.  Time is running out. Will he get to her? Happy Star Wars Day!! May the 4th be with you all! Well this is a first. We actually, by the schedule, are releasing an episode ON Star Wars Day! Woo Hoo! Let's celebrate! And what an episode it was to get to talk about. As we say in the show, the tension of this one can be cut with a light saber..wow! Maul faces down Lawson and offers him a deal. Maul faces Master Eeko and offers him a deal. Do we see a pattern here? Truly, when you think about it, his offers are pretty good, and one might be on the smart side of things to take the offer. Maul is working his manipulation on Devon by first inviting her to a tea party, and when she violently refuses, he says he can work with her anger too, and challenges her to a fight. Through frustration of not being able to do a thing against him, Devon gets angry and begins slipping down the slippery slope into darkness....just as he has forseen.
