Reaction to David Stearns Press Conference

Our good friend Jim Allen of JBallAllen.com returns from Japan for our annual look at NPB players who could head to Major League Baseball through posting or free agency. Jim breaks down this year’s top pitchers and hitters, including Triple Crown winner Teruaki Sato. He also explains why American players often improve after playing in Japan and how potential MLB labor strife could affect Japanese players considering a move to the States. Mike Silva discusses how a small-market World Series makes the case that David Stearns has what it takes to bring the Mets to the next level. The complication? Baseball’s changing economics could force him to operate much as he did in Milwaukee—even with Steve Cohen’s deep pockets. With the specter of Cohen “stepping in” to sign Tarik Skubal, bringing roughly $180 million committed to payroll, could a future salary cap or spending apron change the Mets’ approach? Mike explains why those constraints could reveal that Stearns is exactly the right executive to navigate baseball’s next era. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company.
