Originally born in Flushing, Queens, Yaeji (aka Kathy Yaeji Lee) moved around a lot as a child, including Atlanta Georgia, and her parents homeland of South Korea. She found this clash of cultures evident in her early years but it wasn't until she went to college as a teenager that she would find comfort in the the worlds of hip hop and electronic music. "MØ" is the stage name of Danish singer, songwriter and electronic pop artist "Karen Ørsted".MØ started her musical career in mid-2000's Copenhagen where she wrote and performed in a number of acts in the city's punk scene.
