After much of the airline industry was left struggling in the last month with unpaid TSA agents walking off the job or calling out sick due to the partial government shutdown where Congress could not come to an agreement on a DHS funding bill, some airlines are now taking retaliatory action. Delta Airlines CEO Ed Bastian ripped Congress for creating a “mess” and leaving travelers with hours-long security wait times and TSA agents unpaid for more than a month, saying the airline is now suspending travel perks for members of Congress as a result. After nearly a month without pay due to the partial government shutdown, TSA agents received their first paycheck Monday after President Trump signed an executive order late last week instructing the Department of Homeland Security to pay TSA officers immediately. According to the DHS, nearly 500 of the agency's nearly 50,000 officers have quit since the shutdown started, which led to long security lines across the country. The president’s order comes during a busy travel time with Spring breaks for many schools and colleges in addition to this week’s Passover and Easter holidays. Since the start of the war with Iran, the U.S. stock market has been down. On Thursday stocks had their worst day since the war started as the Nasdaq dropped 10% below its record.
