MGPC Ep 134 RavenCon 2026, and Building Outside Your Genre

Welcome to Episode 134 of The Modelgeeks Podcast! In this episode Mr. Chris King of the Shenandoah Valley Modelers joins us in studio to promote their club’s upcoming inaugural model show, RavenCon 2026 (ShenValleyModelers). We hope to see you out there for their show! Also, we’re going to discuss working outside of the subjects we typically model. What might drive you to build something other than what you’re typically known to build? What is a subject you’d never build? What have you built in the past that you’re not going to try again? We answer these questions and ask a few more.* NOTE: OK, the figure painter whose name I could not recall, Galina Sjtheva. Check out her FB page! From the Modelgeeks Podcast web page we take a look at the Listener Gallery and the fine work that has caught our eye.Mentioned in the Episode: Squadron "Raider Cars"Go check out some Squadron SLEDS from back in the day! Welcome to Episode 133 of The Modelgeeks Podcast!  In this episode, the Geeks are a man down with Nemo on work travel and the four remaining Geeks continue the show. We’ll kick things off with what’s happening in our Model World, run through the listener mail and from the Modelgeeks Podcast web page we take a look at the Listener Gallery and the fine work that has caught our eye.The Geeks run throught the show and contest calendar and mention some shows that are happening in the future. They also mention the Nats in Huntsville Alabama in July 2027.As for the Patreon winners for this episode they are:Pro Geek level: Andrew Deboer, and he was lucky enough to receive the new ICM 1/48 Lockheed Hudsom MK.III courtesy of Lionheart Hobby! The Beginner Geek level: Robert Morales, and he will be receiving a Detail and Scale, Color and Markings book in either electronic or print format from our good friends at Detail and Scale! For the Main Topic, the geeks discuss if your stash is keeping you from finishing models? Let's face it, a lot of us have several hundred models in our stashes and how that can become a barrier to finishing a kit.  Having a large stash makes it hard to figure out what to build next, and the geeks discuss if having a small stash can lead to the same thing as well as allowing you to finish more kits! Share your work with us and the rest of the scale modeling community through our web page, or through our Facebook community page. Welcome to Episode 132 of The ModelGeeks Podcast! After a little bit of the usual Geeks banter, we catch up on what’s happening in our respective model worlds, what’s on the bench, what we’ve finished, and of course, what new plastic has somehow managed to follow us home! We then dig into Mail Call (keep those cards & letters coming folks!) and take a look at some great work from the Listener Gallery during Listener Spotlight. For our main topic, we’re going BIG! Episode 132 is “1/32 — The Big Scale.”The Geeks sit down for a modeler’s discussion about building aircraft in 1/32 scale. Why build big? What does the larger scale bring to the bench that the smaller scales don’t? We talk about the added detail, the opportunities for super-detailing, the growing selection of kits and aftermarket goodies, and of course some of the challenges that come along with these monsters — price, bench space, display space, and figuring out where the heck you’re going to put the thing when you’re finished! We also talk about some of the manufacturers and kits that have helped make 1/32 such a popular aircraft scale and share some of our own experiences, favorites, and opinions on building in the Big Scale. So clear some room off the bench, reinforce the display shelves, and join the Geeks as we talk 1/32!We would like to thank all our listeners out there for the continued support you have given the show. We hope to see you out and about as we hit the show circuit. Greetings my fellow ModelGeeks, and welcome to the MGPC Episode 129!  Nemo hosts this episode, with a full house including D-RAN!!!  Welcome back again Darrin!!!  We chat about the latest and greatest in everyone's model world and get caught up with what's happening in the hobby.  The mail bag was full again with over 15 emails, which is awesome!  We really appreciate the emails and love hearing from you all.  Also, thanks again for the listener gallery submissions.  Please keep the emails and gallery pics coming and we can't wait to see your work, discuss them on the podcast, and present them on our website. For the main topic, we talk about Accuracy and Judging.  Should it play a part in the judging process?? Maybe... maybe not.   Organizations like AMPS have accuracy as part of their judging criteria whereas IPMS does not.   We give our thoughts and opinions on what we believe and dive into the details.  It's a great topic and we hope you all give it a listen. Please feel free to interact with us through social media, Facebook, Instagram, and email:  [email protected] sure to check out our website: www.modelgeekspodcast.com.Make sure you check out our new group / community on Facebook, The ModelGeeks Model ShackWe also want to thank each of our sponsors for their support.
