823: Losing Blog Traffic? Rethink Your YouTube Strategy with MaryAnn Bautista

What if a year of creating content barely moved your follower count, but changed everything about how you create? In this solo episode, I share the honest story behind my year of experimenting with short-form video: the discouraging stretches, the unexpected joy, and the moment I nearly walked away. After months of publishing consistently, I had gained just 800 Instagram followers. Then, hours after I finally decided this story was worth sharing, my overnight apple oatmeal reel took off.. reaching 7 million views and counting. But the biggest lessons came before that breakthrough. I'm sharing what helped me understand why people keep watching, how I started using analytics without letting numbers dictate every creative decision, and why protecting time to experiment has mattered so much. In this episode, you'll learn: • How opening with the process (and holding back the finished result) can create curiosity. • Why a strong opening needs a series of unresolved questions to keep viewers watching. • What skip rates, shares, and saves can teach you beyond the view count. • How curiosity, emotion, utility, and connection shape the way people respond to your content. • Why creative joy and growing skills deserve consideration alongside followers and financial ROI. If you've been creating consistently and wondering whether your effort is going anywhere, this episode is for you.
