Ep. 121 - SEASON RECAP PART 1 - THE OFFENSE

With the Saints in kind of a "holding pattern" in their HC search/awaiting the conclusion of the Super Bowl to announce the expected hire of Kellen Moore, a national news bombshell blew up right on the doorstep of Airline Drive. So, we touch on the recent church scandal email release, how it's different from the news that came out a few years back, and what it may mean (or not mean) for the team as a whole. Either way, we all agree, it's something the team should have never gotten involved in and really fouled things up once they did.Aside from that, we dive into another discussion of Saints 2025 draft strategy, especially after the conclusion of the Senior Bowl in Mobile. A quick look on who stood out from that week, whether it changes the prospects we like for the team. But overall, we focus in more specifically on who we each would like to ideally see the Saints go with at pick No. 9 and how that contributes to the efforts to re-build the roster and later picks in the draft.This one's definitely worth a listen. Well, this has been a Saints Head Coach search for the books...but for all the wrong reasons. Even as we write this description for the episode we just recorded, the candidate who two of us preferred for the Saints HC job JUST announced (as of 9:19 p.m., 1/28/25, per Tom Pelissero) that he is OUT for the 2025 coaching cycle (a/k/a out on the SAINTS, since we're the only team left with a vacancy).We spend a lot of time dissecting where the Saints are in this coaching search, what all these candidates declining interviews really means for the team going forward and we debate what the real problem is at the root of it. Who is to blame? Yes, Loomis, but who else? Is it time to start pointing the finger at Gayle? or did this start well before she even took the helm?Beyond the apparently undesirable nature of working for our front office, who do we like the best as a candidate? Or, what scenario do we want to see play out based on the hire and the next few years down the road? A LOT to talk about in this one. Still, WHO DAT?! TUNE IN NOW!

It’s a yearly tradition now, hold our breath and listen back to our season preview ep. Last year we were WAY off on a lot, but this year? We actually surprised ourselves. Still, plenty in this episode was laughably off from what ended up transpiring for our Saints this year. And, of course, our preseason hot takes are always a good listen after the year wraps. Yes, the word "defense" is in quotation marks in the title of this episode because, contrary to our predictions going into the 2024 Saints season, it's hard to say exactly how much "defending" actually took place when the offense wasn't on the field...So, through that lens, we continue our 28 to 3 Pod Saints Season Recap and grade the defense's paper. Spoiler alert, consensus is they were light years away from the honor roll - a couple of us may even recommend they repeat a grade. Either way, they're still our team, so we did the dirty work in this one and analyzed the issues, discuss some of the good that came through at times, and debate what needs to be addressed going forward, including whether we saw anything - or any player - that could serve as something to build on from here. After having the benefit of a full week since the Saints 2024 season "officially" ended, we dive into our annual RECAP episode. This year, unlike last, we're splitting it up into two parts - one for offense and one for defense. In this one, we take the offense position group by position group, handing out final letter grades to each one. Safe to say, this wasn't a very good report card. More than that, there was PLENTY to discuss in terms of the biggest issues (other than injury) faced by the offense and what the team needs to do going forward. Of course, throughout all of this analysis, we go back to our Season PREVIEW ep., (Episode 85), to see just how "right" - or completely wrong - any of us were about certain takes we had before the season started. We got together before the new year and did our best to recap another embarrassing loss for our Saints. We agree we made a pretty terrible team look much better than they are. Much earlier this year, we'd hoped this game would be filled with much more anticipation - potential for division title on the line for our Saints, a chance for Derek Carr to get a W against his old team in his new home - and perhaps just a helluva time in the Dome to take us into the new year. Is that last one still possible? Maybe. But, those first two options....not exactly. NONETHELESS, we bring you our predictions for this week's matchup vs. the Raiders in our final home game of the season.
