From The Ivory Coast to the United Kingdom: Inspirations and Motivations with Yos Clark

Science in Dance is delighted to welcome Nick Ruddock to the Podcast. Nick is an experienced Gymnastics Coach with over 15 years experience coaching at elite and recreational level as well as being involved in a the progression of Olympic Athletes. Nick has founds the Gymnastics Growth Academy which provides Coach development and education to individuals around the world. Yos Clark is a Dancer, Model, Choreographer, Photographer and Artist from the Ivory Coast. He talks us through his journey of Dancing on the streets of Côte d'Ivoire to pursuing professional Dance Training with KS Dance in the UK. Yos shares his love for the art form and what inspired and motivated him to pursue a career in Dance having learned Ballet on Skype for the first time at the age of 17. He tells us about his passion for movement and that every movement in his choreography comes from a place within and has meaning. The New Series welcomes a wide range of industry experts and minds to share their knowledge with the Dance and Performing Arts community. Rebecca Haw is a professional Ballerina from South Wales who is currently dancing with SemperOper Dresden. Amongst many other endeavours and businesses, launched "The Audition Educator" in the Summer of 2020. Aiding Dancers gain the wider skills needed to be successful in the world of Ballet. Becca tells us her story and what led to her being in such a fantastic position to offer a well-needed service. Claire is a Lecturer in Dance Science and a freelance strength and conditioning coach. Alongside teaching, Claire also continues to train in dance and circus skills and is therefore very interested in applied practice; taking current the research and applying it to the training of dancers and circus artists. She is also particularly interested in researching upper body strength in dance and hopes to encourage more women to participate in strength training. Nico is an accredited coach from the UK Strength and Conditioning Association (UKSCA) and has over 15 years of experience in the athletic development of the adolescent in elite performance in a variety of sports (Judo, Netball, Basketball, Football, Taekwondo, Tennis).  He is also currently the strength and conditioning coach for professional martial artists in Muay Thai and Mixed Martial Arts. Based at Elmhurst Ballet School, U.K. he completed a PhD in injuries and the adolescent ballet dancer and also works as a consultant for Birmingham Royal Ballet. As part of his studies, he led randomised controlled trials in injury prevention in dance and has now developed an injury prevention intervention called “11+Dance”. Nico also specialises in the rehabilitation of overuse injuries in adolescents who are training at different sports, at pre-professional level. Since, 2014, Nico has been a visiting lecturer at the University of Wolverhampton, in Science in Coaching, Motor Learning & Control and in the MSc in Dance Science. Instagram: @strengthmotionmind
