Aaron Pufal and the EV and ADV Cannonballs

Aaron Pufal is the man in the van with the plan. This summer he set a new cannonball record on an electric motorcycle, making it coast to coast in just a smidge over 100 hours. But what's crazy is that the first time he ever rode the soon to be record setting Livewire, or any other electric motorcycle, is when he threw a leg over at the start of his cannonball run. It didn't take long for Aaron and his team to realize that they were going to have to throw away their plans and listen to the hard data from the bike. This would tell them the optimal speed for distance and time. And of course finding charging stations wasn't as easy as they thought either, so this required on the spot research and mapping. But thanks to his grit and his team's brains, they managed to successfully make it to the destination and break the previous record be a good margin. The SEMA show is one of the biggest car shows, but it's really more than that. It's the world's premier trade event for the automotive specialty-equipment and aftermarket industry, and now it's getting even bigger with the addition of motorcycles. So basically, under one roof you will find new cars, old cars, side by sides, trucks, motorcycles and basically anything with a motor. There are only a few places on this planet where you can go as fast as you can and try set a land speed record, and the Bonneville Salt Flats is the most iconic of those places. With 7 miles of nothing by flat white ground, racing and records have been happening here for over a decade. At the BMST you will see everything from 50cc minibikes to 3000+cc streamliners, all pushing the boundaries of what a motorcycle can and should be able to do. And with the Rung What Ya Brung class, you might even see a Buddy 125 scooter putting down the course (hint hint). Elspeth Beard has become a household name in the motorcycle world, but it hasn’t always been that way. Back in 1982 she headed off on her around the world motorcycle journey, returning home years later and resuming her life in England as an architect and then a mother. It wasn’t until 2017, when her book came out, that the world would come to know Elspeth for her motorcycle journey. We were fortunate to interview her in early 2017 before the book’s release, and then again in 2018 after she had become the legend we know of her today.
