Many people experience fatigue in their lives. Many people experience issues with their iron levels. It's one of those Goldilocks nutrients. We don't want it too high or too low, and we definitely want it effectively absorbed to the level we need to make the most of it in our bodies for our energy and a whole bunch of other processes.We had two podcasts on iron last year. One of those was with Rebecca Edwards, naturopath and practitioner lecturer. I'd like to think that plastic is an apolitical subject. None of us want to see our environment or our bodies polluted with this stuff, and so it brings me great pleasure to focus on one of the biggest overlaps of our times: the quest to reduce plastic in our bodies and our environment. We've done a few shows on this over the years, and this week is wonderful.Let me introduce you to Kal Glanznig. He's a filmmaker, a counsellor in his local government area, and a leading youth ocean and climate champion. He’s also a young man of 25 who got his body tested for phthalate levels due to concerns for future fertility and was shocked to see how high his levels were, as he considered himself having a very healthy nature-focused lifestyle. He's created documentaries, Rising Up, back in 2024, and this year just released The Plastic Country. He's a multiple TEDx and UN COP speaker, and he's driven by the motto "Change Happens Locally". In high school, he led a 100 kW solar project, leading to 20 schools to follow suit. This guy is definitely not someone who rests on his laurels. Jenny Smith @mouldconsultancy has been an HVAC specialist (heating/ventilation/air conditioning) for decades - she’s had clients from NASA to the biggest commercial property developers and even wrote the manual on A/C split system installation for Australia in the early 2000s. And then there was mould and becoming gravely ill to the point she was falling asleep at the wheel and couldn’t walk. “Stop and smell the roses” is a familiar phrase, yet today’s guest challenges us to make the “roses” our default mode rather than something we try to remember to do. Say What? So… If you feel like you’re trying to stand still on ever-moving ground…Or perhaps, you feel like, on paper, what you’ve achieved should ‘feel more satisfying and less exhausting or lacking’, or that you perhaps don’t deserve to feel content or happy in today’s world, and you find yourself worrying about ‘everything’, then this show is a recommended prescription. I recently came across Joe DeNicholas, MBA, LCSW, whose work bridges the worlds of science, secular spirituality, and psychological healing. Joe believes it’s not only possible but essential to cultivate and connect more often to our ‘ok-ness’ and so he helps people to do that in his work every day and in his book Unbreakable Wellbeing. I felt truly challenged by the idea of even deserving to work on connecting to my ‘ok-ness’ more often before my conversation with Joe; ‘whattabouting’ all the things I find gravely unjust, and worried it would come across as spiritual bypassing to air a show like this, but it turns out: Joe’s approach might just help us make the world a better place. We look at our personal barriers, frame ourselves within the big world without losing ourselves, and learn a couple of very simple exercises we can use to reconnect to a trust that we’re ok. And that, my lovely listeners, is this week’s show.
