S4E8: Our favorite Greek movie - Famous Greek movies

In this episode, Emily and Danai will give you weather and clothing related vocabulary. They will talk about how the weather is in Greece and show you ways to tell the weather in Greek.E: Πωπω, χειμώνιασε κιόλας!!/Wow, it’s already winter!D: Η αλήθεια είναι πως άλλαξε απότομα ο καιρός… Μόλις μπήκε ο Δεκέμβριος κρύωσε αρκετά./True, the weather changed so suddenly… As soon as December started, it got much colder.E: Ακριβώς! Η θερμοκρασία έχει πέσει αισθητά. Στην Θεσσαλονίκη οι θερμοκρασίες μας κυμαίνονται μεταξύ 10 και 15 περίπου βαθμών Κελσίου./Exactly! The temperature has dropped noticeably. Here in Thessaloniki it’s around 10 to 15 degrees Celsius.D: Και στην Αθήνα έτσι είναι πάνω κάτω. Ίσως τη μέρα να κάνει λίγη περισσότερη ζέστη γιατί είμαστε πιο νότια, αλλά σε γενικές γραμμές κάνει κρύο. Λένε ότι από βδομάδα θα πέσεις κι άλλο η θερμοκρασία./It’s more or less the same in Athens. Maybe during the day it’s a bit warmer because we’re further south, but generally it’s cold. They say that next week the temperature will drop even more.E: Σίγουρα! Εδώ στα βόρεια έχει λίγες μέρες που έχουμε και πολλή ομίχλη. Άσε που η υγρασία τρυπάει κόκκαλο όπως πάντα. Και μιας που μιλάμε για κρύα, μόλις θυμήθηκα ότι πρέπει να πάρω καινούρια μπουφάν στα παιδιά. Τα περσινά δεν τους κάνουν!/For sure! Up here in the north we’ve had a lot of fog these last few days. And the humidity gets right into your bones, as always. And speaking of the cold, I just remembered I need to buy new jackets for the kids. Last year’s don’t fit them anymore!D: Ωχ! Έχεις δίκιο. Εμένα λογικά θα χρειαστούν και σκουφιά και γάντια, κάπου χάθηκαν τα παλιά./Oh! You’re right. Mine will probably need hats and gloves too; the old ones are lost somewhere.E: Σωστά! /True!D: Νομίζω βέβαια, θα χρειαστεί να πάμε για ψώνια σύντομα, γιατί σχεδόν κανένα από τα περσινά χειμερινά ρούχα δεν τους κάνει, τώρα που το σκέφτομαι./ I think we’ll need to go shopping soon anyway, because now that I think about it, almost none of last year’s winter clothes fit them.E: Κι εμείς μία από τα ίδια. Ίσως η μικρή να μπορέσει να πάρει κάποια ρούχα από τη μεγάλη, αλλά σίγουρα έχουμε κι εμείς τα ψώνια στο πρόγραμμα./Same here. Maybe the little one can wear some clothes from the older one, but we definitely have shopping on our list too.D: Λοιπόν θα σου πω τι έχω στη λίστα και πες μου αν ξεχνάω κάτι./So, I’ll tell you what I have on my list and you tell me if I’m forgetting anything.Ε: Πες μου./Go ahead.D: Ωραία, έχω γράψει: παντελόνια, μακρυμάνικες μπλούζες, φούτερ, πουλόβερ, κασκόλ και κανένα μπουφάν./Okay, I’ve written down: pants, long-sleeved shirts, hoodies, sweaters, scarves, and a jacket or two.E: Και τα γάντια με τα σκουφάκια που είπες πριν!/And the gloves and hats you mentioned earlier!D: Σωστά, σωστά! Κάτσε να τα γράψω. Οπότε είμαι έτοιμη, τώρα μένει μόνο να πάμε στα μαγαζιά!/Right, right! Let me write those down. So I’m set, now we just need to go to the stores!Ε: Να πάτε το άλλο Σαββατοκύριακο που ξεκινάνε οι εκπτώσεις!/Go next weekend when the sales start!D: Σωστά! Τότε θα πάμε! /Good idea! I have a lot of fresh vegetables and very tasty fruits.D: Πρώτα πρώτα θέλω μελιτζάνες για μουσακά. Έχεις; / First of all, I want eggplants for moussaka. Do you have any?E: Έχω έχω και πολύ φρέσκιες. Πόσες μελιτζάνες θέλετε; / Yes, I have plenty of fresh ones. How many eggplants would you like?D: Τέσσερις μελιτζάνες παρακαλώ. Πόσο κάνουν οι ντομάτες; Είναι ακριβές; / Four eggplants, please. How much are the tomatoes? Are they expensive?E: Όχι, κυρία Δανάη μου, φτηνές είναι. Ένα ευρώ και πενήντα λεπτά το κιλό.Τσάμπα πράγμα! / No, Mrs. Danae, they're cheap. In this episode, Emily and Danai talk about making a hair change. They will use phrases that will help you at your next visit at the hair salon in Greece.D: Τι ωραία τα μαλλιά σου! Τι έκανες; /Your hair looks so nice! What did you do?E: Αχ σε ευχαριστώ! Τα έκοψα λίγο και τα έβαψα μαύρα. /Oh, thank you! I cut it a bit and dyed it black.D: Α με γεια! Φαίνονται λαμπερά και φρεσκοβαμμένα. Θέλω και εγώ να κάνω μια αλλαγή αλλά δεν ξέρω τι. /Ah, it looks great! It looks shiny and freshly dyed. I want to make a change too, but I don’t know what.E: Γιατί δεν κόβεις φράντζα; Θα σου πάει πολύ. /Why don’t you get bangs? They’d suit you a lot.D: Όχι όχι δεν μ’ αρέσει η φράντζα γιατί θα πρέπει να την φτιάχνω συνέχεια. Τι λες να κάνω μερικές ανταύγειες; /No, no, I don’t like bangs because I’d have to style them all the time. What do you think about getting some highlights?E: Ναι συμφωνώ, μερικές ανταύγειες θα σε φωτίσουν αρκετά. /Yes, I agree — some highlights would really brighten you up.  D: Τέλεια! Θέλω σίγουρα να κάνω και μια θεραπεία ενυδάτωσης γιατί είναι πολύ ξηρά μετά το καλοκαίρι. /Perfect! I definitely want to do a moisturizing treatment too because my hair is so dry after the summer.E: Αχ ναι έκανα και εγώ και τώρα τα χτενίζω πιο εύκολα. Θα κάνεις και πιστολάκι; /Oh yes, I did one too, and now it’s much easier to brush my hair. In this episode, we talk about the 28th of October (28η Οκτωβρίου) in Greece. The 28th of October is a big Natioanl Holiday for our country, and today we will talk about how we honor that day every year!E: Να σου πω, εσείς είστε έτοιμοι για την 28η; /Tell me, are you all ready for the 28th?D: Σχεδόν! Μόνο τα παπούτσια μένουν να πάρουμε, αλλά θα πάμε το Σάββατο. Εσείς; /Almost! We just need to get the shoes, but we’ll go on Saturday. How about you?E: Κι εμείς έτοιμοι! Ευτυχώς κάνουν ακόμα στα παιδιά τα ρούχα από την περσινή γιορτή, οπότε δεν χρειάστηκε να πάμε για ψώνια. Φέτος όμως είχαν πιο δύσκολα ποιήματα και κάναμε πολλές πρόβες. Εσένα θα συμμετέχουν στην γιορτή; /We’re ready too! Luckily, the kids’ clothes from last year’s celebration still fit, so we didn’t need to go shopping. But this year, they had harder poems, and we practiced a lot. Are yours taking part in the celebration?D: Ναι! Κι εμένα δυσκολεύτηκαν λίγο με τα ποιήματα, αλλά νομίζω μέχρι τις 27 του μηνός που είναι η γιορτή θα είναι πανέτοιμοι και οι δύο. Η μεγάλη θα είναι στην χορευτική ομάδα και η μικρή στην χορωδία! /Yes! Mine had a bit of trouble with the poems too, but I think by the 27th—the day of the celebration—they’ll both be fully ready. The older one will be in the dance group, and the younger one in the choir!E: Τέλειο! Πήρατε και στολές για τους χορούς ή δεν σας ζήτησαν; /That’s great! Did you get costumes for the dances, or didn’t they ask for any?D: Νοίκιασε κάποιες ο σύλλογος γονέων και κηδεμόνων, οπότε μόλις τελειώσει η γιορτή θα τις επιστρέψουμε. Εσείς όμως θα είστε και στην μεγάλη παρέλαση, σωστά; /The parents’ association rented some, so once the celebration is over, we’ll return them. But you’ll also be in the big parade, right?Ε: Ακόμα καλύτερα έτσι! Ναι! Και οι δύο φέτος θα είναι στην μεγάλη παρέλαση στο κέντρο… Είναι λίγο αγχωμένοι θα έλεγα. Θα έχει πολύ κόσμο! /Even better that way! Yes! Both of them will be in the big parade downtown this year… I’d say they’re a bit nervous. There will be a lot of people!D: Λογικό! Θα έρθουμε να τους δούμε οπωσδήποτε! Τι ώρα είναι; /Understandable! We’ll definitely come to watch them! What time does it start?Ε: 10 η ώρα αρχίζει. /It starts at 10 o’clock.D: Τέλεια! In today's episode we will talk about the "Back to school" period in September and how it looks like in Greece. We will also talk about some traditions and preparations for the new school year.E: Καλό μήνα! Επιστρέψατε από τις διακοπές; /Happy new month! Did you come back from vacation?D: Ναι! Ετοιμαζόμαστε για την επιστροφή στο σχολείο. Εσείς; /Yes! We’re getting ready for back to school. How about you?Ε: Εμείς γυρνάμε αύριο από το χωριό και τα παιδιά δεν θέλουν να φύγουν με τίποτα! / We’re coming back from the village tomorrow, and the kids don’t want to leave at all!D: Μία από τα ίδια κι εμείς όταν φύγαμε από τους παππούδες. Πού να δεις χαρές που θα κάνουν στις 11 Σεπτεμβρίου που θα ανοίξουν και πάλι τα σχολεία. / Same with us when we left the grandparents. Just wait till you see how happy they’ll be on September 11th when school starts again.Ε: Τι τάξη θα πάνε φέτος; / What grade are they going to this year?D: Η Μαρία θα πάει πρώτη Λυκείου και ο Παναγιώτης Δευτέρα Γυμνασίου. Εσένα; / Maria is going to 10th grade (first year of high school) and Panagiotis to 8th grade (second year of middle school). Yours?Ε: Ουάου! Η Μαρία τελειώνει το σχολείο σιγά σιγά! Εμένα ο μεγάλος θα πάει Τετάρτη Δημοτικού και ο μικρός νηπιαγωγείο. / Wow! Maria is slowly finishing school! My oldest is going to 3rd grade in primary school, and the little one to kindergarten. D: Άντε με το καλό. Και από του χρόνου στο Δημοτικό και ο Γιώργος! / That’s great. And next year George will be in elementary too!Ε: Ναι, αυτός χαίρεται λίγο περισσότερο για την επιστροφή στο σχολείο από τον Ανδρέα! / Yes, he’s actually a bit more excited about going back to school than Andreas is!D: Λογικό! Το ίδιο και η Μαρία… αγχώνεται πολύ που μπαίνει στο Λύκειο φέτος./ Makes sense! Same with Maria… she’s very stressed about starting high school this year.Ε: Το φαντάζομαι. Εμείς αύριο θα πάμε να πάρουμε μία  καινούργια τσάντα και ένα παγούρι για τον μικρό. Θέλεις να έρθεις; / I can imagine. Tomorrow we’re going to buy a new school bag and a water bottle for the little one. Want to come along?D: Φέτος λέμε να χρησιμοποιήσουν τις περσινές τσάντες και κασετίνες και για τα υπόλοιπα σχολικά είδη θα πάμε αφού ξεκινήσουν τα σχολεία και ξέρουμε τι χρειάζονται. Μπορούμε όμως να κανονίσουμε έναν καφέ πριν μπούμε στη ρουτίνα. / This year we decided they’ll use last year’s bags and pencil cases, and for the rest of the school supplies we’ll shop after classes begin, once we know what they need. But we can definitely plan a coffee before we get back into routine.Ε: Εννοείται! Μέσα στο Σαββατοκύριακο θα είμαι ελεύθερη, πάμε όποτε θες! / Of course!
