In ep 165 of “How Do You Say That?!” sponsored by britishvoiceover.co.uk, Richard Koslowsky joins Sam and Mark to talk about how some scripts don't make sense until you read them out loud, and why you should always ask a client if they want your recording raw or processed. There's a distinct lack of caffeine from one of us and we ask 'Is there a more trustworthy accent than soft Yorkshire'? We learn not to make too many assumptions about a script, and bring you woman who gets electric shocks and seems to enjoy it a little too much! There's also a very wise old tree telling a tale! Count the rings!
Our VO question this week is all about whether you should record and mix your own demo reels from scratch, or create them from work you've already done, or hand the process off to a demo reel production house.

Script 1
The Marble Hall was Devonshire House for a dinner party and a dance where Georgiana's wig catches fire. Preparing for this incident involved the National Trust being sent a series of videos of burning wigs so that the safest approach - both for Keira and the building - could be worked out. Meanwhile two days were spent covering the delicate marble floor with its exact replica, made of flame-retardant wood. Over 150 candles were used on specially-commissioned candelabra, and stunt people dressed as 'guests' were in place to catch any falling candles.

About our guest:
Richard Koslowsky is a classically trained actor based in Leeds. After an early career on stage and screen followed by a hiatus working full-time in the corporate world, Richard returned to his creative roots in 2024 to explore voiceover for the first time. After honing his skills and self-producing his first award-nominated reel, Richard started working with brands such as Nestlé, Lloyds Bank, and Hisense. This momentum has culminated in a 2026 One Voice Award nomination for Best Newcomer. While a regular fixture in the commercial and corporate sectors, he is increasingly focused on delving into more character-driven work. When the mic is off, Richard is a dedicated sourdough baker, a fermenter of foods, and a self-confessed filter coffee nerd.
