On the sociology and hierarchy of voids: a study of seven CAVITY nearby galaxy voids and their dynamical CosmicFlows-3 environment by H. M. Courtois et al. on Wednesday 30 November Context. The present study addresses a key question for our understanding of the relation between void galaxies and their environment: the relationship between luminous and dark matter in and around voids. Aims. To explore how empty of matter local Universe voids are, we study the full (dark+luminous) matter content of seven nearby cosmic voids that are fully contained within the CosmicFlows-3 volume. Methods. The cosmic voids matter density profiles are independently obtained using two different methods. They are built on one hand from the galaxy redshift space 2 points-correlation function and, on the other hand, using peculiar velocity gradients from the CosmicFlows-3 dataset. Results. The results are noticeable since when using the redshift survey, all voids show a radial positive gradient of galaxies, while based on the dynamical analysis, only three of these voids display a clear underdensity of matter in their center. Conclusions. It is the first time such a detailed observational analysis of voids is conducted, showing that void emptiness should be derived from dynamical information. Yet, from this limited study, the Hercules void is the best candidate for a local Universe pure "pristine volume" expanding in 3 directions with no dark matter located in that void. arXiv: http://arxiv.org/abs/http://arxiv.org/abs/2211.16388v1

Updating constraints on phantom crossing f T gravity by F. B. M. dos Santos. on Wednesday 30 November We establish constraints on $f(T)$ gravity by considering the possibility of a scenario that supports a phantom crossing of the equation of state parameter $w_{DE}$. After determining the viable parameter space of the model, while checking the impact on the background dynamics, we perform an analysis to obtain constraints on cosmological parameters and determine the viability of this scenario. To this end, we use combined data sets from cosmic chronometers (CC), baryonic acoustic oscillations (BAO), redshift space measurements (RSD), cosmic microwave background (CMB) and Big Bang nucleosynthesis (BBN) priors and Type Ia supernovae (SNe) measurements from the Pantheon set, in which the impact on the absolute magnitude is also considered. It is found that a state where a phantom crossing of $w_{DE}$ happens is favored by data, and while the $f(T)$ model is equivalent to the $\Lambda$CDM one by statistical criteria when CC+SNe+BAO+BBN data is considered, a considerable tension is found when CMB data is added. We also find that the Hubble tension is alleviated in the $f(T)$ model, at the same time that it does not worsen the growth one, indicating a possibility of the scenario as an option to address the current cosmic tensions. arXiv: http://arxiv.org/abs/http://arxiv.org/abs/2211.16370v1

Large-scale geometry of the Universe by Yassir Awwad et al. on Wednesday 30 November The large scale geometry of the late Universe can be decomposed as R$\times {\Sigma}_3$, where R stands for cosmic time and ${\Sigma}_3$ is the three dimensional spatial manifold. We conjecture that the spatial geometry of the Universe's spatial section ${\Sigma}_3$ conforms with the Thurston-Perelman theorem, according to which the geometry of $\Sigma_3$ is either one of the eight geometries from the Thurston geometrization conjecture, or a combination of Thurston geometries smoothly sewn together. We assume that topology of individual geometries plays no observational role, i.e. the size of individual geometries is much larger than the Hubble radius today. We investigate the dynamics of each of the individual geometries by making use of the simplifying assumption that our local Hubble patch consists of only one such geometry, which is approximately homogeneous on very large scales, but spatial isotropy is generally violated. Spatial anisotropies grow in time in decelerating universes, but they decay in accelerating universes. The thus-created anisotropy problem can be solved by a period of primordial inflation, akin to how the flatness problem is solved. Therefore, as regards Universe's large scale geometry, any of the Thurston's geometries should be considered on a par with Friedmann's geometries. The Dark Energy Survey Year 3 high redshift sample: Selection, characterization and analysis of galaxy clustering by C. Sánchez et al. on Wednesday 30 November The fiducial cosmological analyses of imaging galaxy surveys like the Dark Energy Survey (DES) typically probe the Universe at redshifts $z < 1$. This is mainly because of the limited depth of these surveys, and also because such analyses rely heavily on galaxy lensing, which is more efficient at low redshifts. In this work we present the selection and characterization of high-redshift galaxy samples using DES Year 3 data, and the analysis of their galaxy clustering measurements. In particular, we use galaxies that are fainter than those used in the previous DES Year 3 analyses and a Bayesian redshift scheme to define three tomographic bins with mean redshifts around $z \sim 0.9$, $1.2$ and $1.5$, which significantly extend the redshift coverage of the fiducial DES Year 3 analysis. These samples contain a total of about 9 million galaxies, and their galaxy density is more than 2 times higher than those in the DES Year 3 fiducial case. We characterize the redshift uncertainties of the samples, including the usage of various spectroscopic and high-quality redshift samples, and we develop a machine-learning method to correct for correlations between galaxy density and survey observing conditions. The analysis of galaxy clustering measurements, with a total signal-to-noise $S/N \sim 70$ after scale cuts, yields robust cosmological constraints on a combination of the fraction of matter in the Universe $\Omega_m$ and the Hubble parameter $h$, $\Omega_m = 0.195^{+0.023}_{-0.018}$, and 2-3% measurements of the amplitude of the galaxy clustering signals, probing galaxy bias and the amplitude of matter fluctuations, $b \sigma_8$. Impact of galactic distributions in celestial capture of dark matter by Debajit Bose et al. on Wednesday 30 November Celestial capture of dark matter provides a useful handle on constraining its particulate properties. The capture formalism is sensitive to the phase space distribution of the dark matter in the vicinity of the celestial object. This article aims at systematically studying the impact of uncertainties and the influence of cosmological simulations on the rate at which dark matter particles are captured inside a variety of celestial objects. Going beyond the framework of the standard halo model, we take up pragmatic dark mater velocity distribution models motivated from observations or cosmological simulations. Within the limits of the standard halo model, we report a maximum $ \sim 20\%$ change in the capture rate. The CMB cold spot under the lens: ruling out a supervoid interpretation by Stephen Owusu et al. on Wednesday 30 November The Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) anisotropies are thought to be statistically isotropic and Gaussian. However, several anomalies are observed, including the CMB Cold Spot, an unexpected cold $\sim 10^{\circ}$ region with $p$-value $\lesssim 0.01$ in standard $\Lambda$CDM. One of the proposed origins of the Cold Spot is an unusually large void on the line of sight, that would generate a cold region through the combination of integrated Sachs-Wolfe and Rees-Sciama effects. In the past decade extensive searches were conducted in large scale structure surveys, both in optical and infrared, in the same area for $z \lesssim 1$ and did find evidence of large voids, but of depth and size able to account for only a fraction of the anomaly. Here we analyze the lensing signal in the Planck CMB data and rule out the hypothesis that the Cold Spot could be due to a large void located anywhere between us and the surface of last scattering. In particular, computing the evidence ratio we find that a model with a large void is disfavored compared to $\Lambda$CDM, with odds 1 : 13 (1 : 20) for SMICA (NILC) maps, compared to the original odds 56 : 1 (21 : 1) using temperature data alone. arXiv: http://arxiv.org/abs/http://arxiv.org/abs/2211.16139v1

The Second Radio Synchrotron Background Workshop: Conference Summary and Report by J. Singal et al. on Wednesday 30 November We summarize the second radio synchrotron background workshop, which took place June 15-17, 2022 in Barolo, Italy. This meeting was convened because available measurements of the diffuse radio zero level continue to suggest that it is several times higher than can be attributed to known Galactic and extragalactic sources and processes, rendering it the least well understood electromagnetic background at present and a major outstanding question in astrophysics. The workshop agreed on the next priorities for investigations of this phenomenon, which include searching for evidence of the Radio Sunyaev-Zeldovich effect, carrying out cross-correlation analyses of radio emission with other tracers, and supporting the completion of the 310 MHz absolutely calibrated sky map project. arXiv: http://arxiv.org/abs/http://arxiv.org/abs/2211.16547v1

Latest data constraint of some parameterized dark energy models by Jing Yang et al. on Wednesday 30 November Using various latest cosmological datasets including Type-Ia supernovae, cosmic microwave background radiation, baryon acoustic oscillations, and estimations of the Hubble parameter, we test some dark energy models with parameterized equations of state and try to distinguish or select observation-preferred models. We obtain the best fitting results of the six models and calculate their values of the Akaike Information Criteria and Bayes Information Criterion. And we can distinguish these dark energy models from each other by using these two information criterions. However, the $\Lambda $CDM model remains the best fit model. Furthermore, we perform geometric diagnostics including statefinder and Om diagnostics to understand the geometric behaviour of the dark energy models. We find that the six DE models can be distinguished from each other and from $\Lambda$CDM, Chaplygin gas, quintessence models after the statefinder and Om diagnostics were performed. Finally, we consider the growth factor of the dark energy models with comparison to $\Lambda $CDM model. RSD measurements from BOSS galaxy power spectrum using the halo perturbation theory model by Byeonghee Yu et al. on Wednesday 30 November We present growth of structure constraints from the cosmological analysis of the power spectrum multipoles of SDSS-III BOSS DR12 galaxies. We use the galaxy power spectrum model of Hand et al. (2017), which decomposes the galaxies into halo mass bins, each of which is modeled separately using the relations between halo biases and halo mass. The model combines Eulerian perturbation theory and halo model calibrated on $N$-body simulations to model the halo clustering. In this work, we also generate the covariance matrix by combining the analytic disconnected part with the empirical connected part: we smooth the connected component by selecting a few principal components and show that it achieves good agreement with the mock covariance. We find tight constraints on $f\sigma_8$: $f\sigma_8(z_{\mathrm{eff}}=0.38)=0.489 \pm 0.036$ and $f\sigma_8(z_{\mathrm{eff}}=0.61)=0.455 \pm 0.026$ at $k_{\mathrm{max}} = 0.2\ h$Mpc$^{-1}$, in good agreement with Planck amplitude. This corresponds to $S_8 = 0.821 \pm 0.037$ or an overall amplitude error of 4%, within 0.3 sigma of Planck's $S_8 = 0.832 \pm 0.013$. We discuss the sensitivity of cosmological parameter estimation to the choice of scale cuts, covariance matrix, and the inclusion of hexadecapole $P_4(k)$. We show that with $k_{\mathrm{max}} = 0.4\ h$Mpc$^{-1}$ the constraints improve considerably to an overall 2.7% amplitude error (with $S_8 = 0.786 \pm 0.021$), but there is some evidence of model misspecification on MultiDark-PATCHY mocks. Real-world CMB lensing quadratic estimator power spectrum response by Julien Carron. on Wednesday 30 November I describe a method to estimate response matrices of Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) lensing power spectra estimators to the true sky power under realistic conditions. Applicable to all lensing reconstruction pipelines based on quadratic estimators (QE), it uses a small number of Gaussian CMB Monte-Carlos and specially designed QE's in order to obtain sufficiently accurate matrices with little computational effort. This method may be used to improve the modelling of CMB lensing band-powers by incorporating at least some of the non-idealities encountered in CMB lensing reconstruction. These non-idealities always include masking, and often inhomogeneous filtering, either in the harmonic domain or pixel space. I obtain these matrices for Planck latest lensing reconstructions, and then show that the residual couplings induced by masking explain very well the residual multiplicative bias seen on the Planck simulations, removing the need for an empirical correction. arXiv: http://arxiv.org/abs/http://arxiv.org/abs/2210.05449v2
