What does it take to get a printmaker’s work from the studio to a busy art fair? Lisa Takahashi takes listeners behind the scenes, from planning and preparation to setting up a stand and hearing from fellow exhibitors.

In this episode, Lisa shares the realities of preparing for an art fair as a printmaker, including selecting and transporting original prints, framing and presentation, setting up a display, pricing artwork, and talking to visitors. Recorded at the Spike Print Fair at Spike Island Studios, Bristol, she offers an insight into the atmosphere of a contemporary print fair and the work that goes into exhibiting and selling original linocuts, woodcuts, screen prints, and other forms of original printmaking. Along the way, Lisa reflects on the community surrounding printmaking and asks what it’s like to take work out of the studio and share it with a wider audience.

Features conversations with:

James Green, screen and relief print artist with landscape and nature-based subjects

Steph Renshaw, multi-disciplinary printmaker depicting the natural world

Ben Goodman, wood engraver specialising in multi-layered reduction portraits.

This episode is part of the ‘Ask An Artist’ series, hosted by Lisa Takahashi, from the Jackson’s Art Podcast. Lisa Takahashi is a British-Japanese artist-printmaker, writer and founder of Isle Print Studio, where she teaches relief print techniques.
