In this bonus episode, taken from a recent online public meeting, Amoda Maa explores the deeply ingrained habit of attention contracting around the objects of experience — our thoughts, feelings, sensations, memories, problems, and plans.

When attention becomes bound up with experience, identity becomes bound up with it too: I am this thought. I am this feeling. I am this difficulty. From here arises the constant attempt to manage, control, fix, reject, or change what is happening.

Amoda invites a different possibility: the relaxation of attention. Not as a withdrawal from experience or an attempt to get rid of anything, but as a softening of the habitual movement toward experience. Sounds can simply be heard, sensations felt, emotions allowed to move, without immediately turning them into something that must be interpreted or resolved.

As this habit gradually loosens, something quieter begins to reveal itself — the openness of being that is already here beneath all movement. Awakening, Amoda suggests, need not be a dramatic event or a special state to attain. More often, it is a gradual unveiling of what has never been absent.

The invitation is not to manufacture stillness, but to become available to the presence that is already here.
