84: The Abduction of Carl Higdon with AP Strange

    1:34:12

When one of his crew members called out sick, Everett "Carl" Higdon, a resident of Rawlins, Wyoming, borrowed the company truck, and set out for McCarty canyon to hunt elk with his new 7MM Magnum rifle. Along the way, he ran into two guys who were having trouble with their truck. As a nod of appreciation for helping them out, they directed Carl to a remote are of Medicine Bow National Forest. After running into a local game warden, Carl set out in search of elk, and before long he found a group of five standing in a clearing. Before long, a deadened shot would lead to a strange experience with an even stranger being. Anomalous researcher, AP Strange, joins me to unpack the bewildering abduction of Carl Higdon. 84: The Voronezh Landing & Russian UFO Flap of 1989 with Ryan Sprague

    1:11:30

For decades, UFO reports from inside the Soviet Union were leaked to various UFO researchers and writers. Flying Saucer Review often printed UFO accounts from behind the Iron Curtain, which was risky, because it was forbidden to write about UFOs in the Soviet Union. And then, in 1989, UFO secrecy seemed to drop overnight. News of a now infamous landing in Yuzhny Park (South Park) from the industrial city of Voronezh made headlines worldwide. Soon, news of other landings and UFO accounts would fill the pages of UFO journals and supplements,  Did UFO secrecy really fall, or was there something at work in Russia. I'm joined by Ryan Sprague of the Somewhere in the Skies Podcast to dissect the Voronezh landing and the Russian UFO flap of 1989. 83: The New Berlin Landing & Woodstock Poltergeist with Tobias Wayland

    1:15:35

Hello Patrons! Here is the early release of the next episode! On today's episode of the Our Strange Skies podcast, we bring you a pair of fairy tales from New York. In November of 1964 a newly married woman, along with her mother in law, observed two UFOs, and a crew of 10-12 normal looking people, repair their craft for over FOUR HOURS! In the second case, a young couple moves into a small cabin on the outskirts of Woodstock only to experience an incredible spate of poltergeist phenomenon in and around their home. Tobias Wayland of the Singular Fortean Society joins me to discuss these two fascinating and frustrating cases. 82: George Wheeler and the Wisconsin UFO Flap of the Mid 70s with Brent Hand

    1:20:04

George Wheeler never expected to see two, let alone one, but his second sighting was different. From the top of Tuttle Hill in Elmwood, Wisconsin, a bright, glowing object hovered 100 feet in the air. George knew what to do this time, and he picked up the radio, and described everything he could to dispatch. And then, the radio went dead... Elmwood, Wisconsin, population 700, is the least likely place for a UFO flap, but in the mid 1970s it played host to a series of UFO sightings, as did the entire state. There were UFOs, abductions, strange humanoids, and even GONDOLA MAN. Brent Hand from Hysteria 51 stops by to explore the Wisconsin Cheese Flap of the mid 1970s! 81: The Abduction of Dionisio Llanca with Spencer Wirth-Davis

    1:09:31

Dionisio Llanca awoke in a strange place in the early morning hours of October 28, 1973. He was inside a corral that stored a bunch of different carts with no memory of who he was, where he was, or even where he lived. He wandered out onto a road before he blacked out and woke up in the hospital a few days later. What happened in the moments before Dionisio attempted to change his tire and after are subjective at best. Under hypnosis a story of alien abduction emerged, and despite how unbelievable that sounds, he did have conscious recall... of a UFO and three mysterious beings behind him... I'm joined by one of the Sweary Boys, Spencer Wirth-Davis aka Big Cats, of The What If? Podcast to discuss the ups and downs of the abduction phenomenon and whether or not these aliens look like David Spade. 80: The Abduction of José Antônio da Silva with Brian Hastie

    1:09:25

The earliest abduction cases, like those of Betty and Barney Hill and Antônio Villas Boas, were strange and new. Cases in which people were kidnapped by alien beings were rare. So rare, in fact, that they had never appeared in print before. But when they did cases started to emerge, slowly, into the ufological psyche.  One of the earliest cases involves the abduction of a Brazilian soldier, José Antônio da Silva, who was kidnapped by short hairy humanoids, taken to a strange room, made to consume a strange liquid, and was perhaps involved in an intergalactic arms deal? Brian Hastie from Double Density and The Order of Podcasters joins me to discuss one of the most fascinating and earliest alien abduction cases. 78: The Early Humanoid Sightings, 1947-1954 with Chris Cogswell

    1:11:26

It wasn't long after Kenneth Arnold's infamous sighting, in June of 1947, that the humanoids appeared. First in Brazil and then in Italy. Early humanoid cases were few and far between, and and when they did appear, they were devoid of detail or the beings that piloted their UFOs were very strange. Some were 7 feet tall, others had 4 thumbs, and some looked like monsters plucked from a sci-fi horror film. Today, I'm joined by Chris Cogswell of The Mad Scientist Podcast to discuss some of these early cases. We also discuss his departure from the Galileo Project, the culture around the UFO phenomenon and how complicated applying science to the UFO problem is. 79: The Conil Case with Red Pill Junkie

    1:21:08

The ufological landscape of 1989 was very rigid. Long since gone were the humanoids of old, replaced with the greys: short humanoid beings with grey skin, big heads, and terrifying eyes that resembled black inky pools. Cattle mutilations were happening in record number, and by 1980 they had been linked to the UFO, and secret government tests. 1989 was the year that Bill Moore shocked the world at the annual MUFON conference in Las Vegas, when he exposed his involvement with the government's disinformation campaign against Paul Bennewitz. There was also another big case that would receive a great deal of exposure when a story about it was aired on the television program, Unsolved Mysteries. The story, of course, was that of the infamous Roswell Incident. Tucked neatly into 1989 were two UFO incidents that didn't seem to fit in. The Veronezh Incident, which took place in Veronezh, Russia, on September 27, 1989, seems like a story out of a science-fiction film. A UFO lands, a giant alien gets out, along with a robot,; it disappears, reappears, the tall alien pulls out a wand and makes a kid disappear briefly, until the craft departs. Two days later, and even stranger, less well known case would occur in Conil de la Frontera in southern Spain. Noted Fortean researcher, writer and artist, Red Pill Junkie joins me to discuss the Conil Case, a story that features red moons, shapeshifting aliens, hovering giants, and maybe some spy activity. We also discuss the UFOlogy Tarot deck, which was recently funded on Kickstarter, and boat loads of high strangeness! 77: The 1972 South African Wave

    38:10

Aside from a few stray cases, such as that of Elizabeth Klarer, and the roadside encounter of a disc shaped object by two constables in Pretoria, the UFO was an unfamiliar sight in South Africa. That all changed in 1972 when "Bennie" Smit opened fire on a strange egg shaped object skulking around his farm. The shots heard 'round Braeside farm led to a wave of UFO activity that caught the attention of those that lived in The Republic of South Africa. 76: UFOs Over Africa

    2:15:34

More often than not, these encounters, which are often fleeting, are reported from well known countries, like the United States, Brazil, Russia, and various countries throughout Europe. One continent that doesn't get highlighted enough is Africa. And yet, Africa offers us a unique look at the phenomenon through a multi-cultural lens.  This episode of the Our Strange Skies podcast is from a presentation I gave for Pan Paracon . Special thanks to Vanessa, Mera and Jayson for putting this together and for inviting me to take part. Check out their merch store here.
