On the morning of June 1, 1987, 16-year-old Theresa Ann Bier left her uncle's home in Fresno, California, dressed for school. Instead, she went on a camping trip with a 43-year-old friend of her uncle's in the Sierra Nevada Mountains to search for Bigfoot. When the man resurfaced in Fresno days later without Theresa, he said she had wandered off into the woods. He then offered an account stranger than anyone expected. Detectives found holes in his story almost immediately, but after a few attempts to comb the rugged wilderness, no trace of Theresa was ever recovered. Without a body, prosecutors could never bring him to trial. On the morning of September 21, 2015, 26-year-old Asha Kreimer sat down for breakfast at the Rollerville Café near Point Arena, California, with her boyfriend and a friend. She had been awake for five days, was in the grip of a mental health crisis, and had just been released following a psychiatric evaluation. But sometime around 11:00 that morning, she got up to use the restroom and never came back. Her jacket was later found on a trail leading toward the Point Arena Lighthouse. On the night before Thanksgiving 2016, eighteen-year-old Tom Brown left his home in Canadian, Texas to go cruising with friends. But he never came home. When his red Dodge Durango turned up the next morning at a sewage treatment plant on the edge of town, there was a bullet casing on the floor and a drop of his blood on the door handle, but no sign of Tom. What followed was two years of strange discoveries: his backpack found miles away across the Canadian River, his phone resurfacing in near-perfect condition, and security footage of someone driving his car around that tiny town for hours while people were out looking for him.
