In 2001, Gretchen Rhodes, a 24-year-old spa worker, was persistently approached by Ghislaine Maxwell, who recruited her to provide private massages on Jeffrey Epstein's private Caribbean island, Little St. James. Maxwell emphasized secrecy, instructing Rhodes to "speak when spoken to" and to keep any observations to herself. Initially, Rhodes massaged Maxwell, but after a few months, she was introduced to Epstein. During their second session, Epstein coerced Rhodes into inappropriate actions, including rubbing his nipples while he masturbated. Epstein manipulated her by promising to support her singing career, even flying her to New York to meet record label executives.

Reflecting on her experiences, Rhodes believes that Maxwell was fully aware of the abuse she facilitated, stating that Maxwell "knew exactly what she was getting all these women – girls – into, and she did it with joy; with the joy of what that power brings to her." Rhodes remained silent for years due to feelings of shame and fear but decided to speak out to reclaim her narrative and empower others. She now focuses on teaching self-worth and confidence, aiming to help others avoid similar exploitation.
