Hollywood is taking us back to Narnia, but what message is coming along for the ride? Greta Gerwig's upcoming The Magician's Nephew features Meryl Streep as the voice of Aslan, the majestic lion through whom C.S. Lewis portrayed Jesus Christ, and the song chosen to accompany the trailer, Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven." But before we get swept away by the familiar music and imagery, there's something you need to know about the stairway and where it leads. Today, we'll examine these decisions and what they mean for Hollywood's adaptation of Lewis's beloved work. Pastor Josh Schimmel will join us to unpack the true meaning behind "Stairway to Heaven" and explain just where the Piper is calling you to join him. Secret affairs. Disturbing messages. And men who spoke about God while hiding lives of betrayal. The deaths of Ashley Flynn, Kari Baker, and Mica Miller… and the troubling stories behind them. Caleb Flynn and Matt Baker were convicted of murdering their wives. Mica Miller’s death, explored in Death of the Pastor’s Wife, was ruled a suicide, while her husband, John-Paul Miller, faces federal charges of cyberstalking and making false statements, to which he has pleaded not guilty. We’ll examine the chilling texts between Caleb Flynn and his mistress, including his statement: “If I could literally kill her and not go to hell, I would do it in a heartbeat.” How does someone move from hiding an affair to viewing their spouse as an obstacle to eliminate? And how can someone fear the consequences of sin while refusing to repent of the sin itself? When does a call for Christian unity become a demand to overlook false teaching? And how should Christians use their platforms when interviewing someone who promotes sexual immorality while professing faith in Jesus? Bryce Crawford's recent answers at Georgia Southern University raised some serious questions in discussing disagreements among professing Christian denominations. He described opposition to certain teachings as the work of Satan and characterized separation over these issues as dumb and prideful. But which issues are we talking about? Scripture calls believers to unity, and it also commands us to test teachings, expose darkness, and contend earnestly for the faith. How do we reach people with the gospel while ensuring our platforms don't help normalize the very sins that Christ died for? Blessed by this ministry? One of the largest streamers in the world, lookmaxxer extraordinaire, Clavicular, has built an audience by pushing the limits of what people will watch. Now he faces allegations and charges relating to SA and drugging a minor. Earlier controversies brought arrests, dropped charges, and more attention. In the age of livestreaming, even a scandal can become the next episode. But a celebrity surviving scandal is nothing new. Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler is currently heading back into the courtroom for decades of allegations about his relationship with a teenage girl. Karl Malone became a basketball legend despite fathering a child with a 13-year-old. Don Henley’s arrest after a 16-year-old overdosed at his home became part of the story behind his hit “Dirty Laundry.” And Stevie Nicks has said she believes Fleetwood Mac would have been “done” if she had not gotten away with a planned killing. What are audiences willing to overlook when they love someone’s music, admire their talent, or can’t stop watching their stream? And what happens when a culture doesn’t just excuse a person’s choices, but helps turn those choices into part of their fame? Zack Snyder has directed some of the biggest films of the last two decades, from 300 to Watchmen, Man of Steel, and Batman v Superman—movies that have influenced millions. But what is it that has influenced him? In a recent interview, Snyder tried to distance himself from right-leaning allegations by calling his movie 300: "one of the gayest movies ever made," argued that movies need more eroticism, and then revealed something even more important: the spirituality behind his filmmaking. Snyder says that his worldview is an, quote, "alchemy of Christian Science and Joseph Campbell," describing Jesus as essentially, quote, "a dude who figured it out" and saying, "We are all Superman, and we are all gods on Earth." This matters because ideas don't stay inside books and philosophy. They influence filmmakers, filmmakers influence movies, and movies influence us. Blessed by this ministry? Brad Pitt grew up Southern Baptist—church, Sunday school, prayer, and the Bible were all part of his upbringing. But somewhere along the way, Pitt walked away from that faith, eventually identifying as an atheist before embracing a much more ambiguous spirituality. Recently, Pitt opened up about ending his seven-year period of sobriety, while also speaking candidly about depression, mental health struggles, and some of the darkest moments of his life. However, Pitt is far from alone. Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry, Hugh Jackman, the Jonas Brothers, and countless other celebrities were raised in Christian homes or churches, only to later distance themselves from the faith they grew up with. So what happened? What causes someone surrounded by Christianity to eventually reject it? And when celebrities explain why they walked away, are they rejecting biblical Christianity or something entirely different? Most importantly, what can Christians do to call them back to the faith in which they were raised? Skillet is celebrating 20 years of Comatose—the album that helped turn them into arguably the biggest Christian rock band in the world. But the celebration is already surrounded by controversy. Bad Wolves were announced as support for the anniversary tour, only to be removed from the lineup after Skillet fans began raising serious concerns about the band’s new lead singer, Sara “KILLBOY” Skinner—including her sexually explicit public persona and reported OnlyFans activity. Skinner says Skillet’s fans did the research that management apparently didn’t, and shortly afterward, Bad Wolves were off the tour. But that raises another question: If those concerns were serious enough to separate from Bad Wolves, why is Skillet still celebrating Comatose alongside secular rock band Escape the Fate? And maybe the bigger question isn’t simply, “Should Christian bands ever play with secular bands?” But rather... "Where is the line between reaching the culture and allowing the culture to influence you?" Seth Gruber’s new film brings together prominent evangelical voices like Allie Beth Stuckey and Pastor Jack Hibbs, while also featuring Catholic commentator Michael Knowles—and it raises a much bigger question. For years, Protestants and evangelicals have joined forces with figures like Lila Rose in the fight against abortion, often under the banner of “co-belligerence.” More recently, Joel Webbon announced Alex Jones as a speaker at his “Christ Is King” event. And Doug Wilson has openly articulated the reasoning behind these kinds of alliances: we may fundamentally disagree, but we can still fight together against a common enemy. But is that actually a biblical position? When does working alongside someone become joining together in a cause? And when eternal souls are at stake, can Christians separate the battle from the gospel? Today, we’re examining co-belligerence and putting it to the test of Scripture. There is something deeply disturbing about the story of Hayden Panettiere, and it goes far beyond the circumstances surrounding her tragic death. At just 36 years old, Hayden entered Hollywood as a child. She was supposed to have parents who protected her, who put her well-being ahead of a paycheck, a contract, or a career. Yet, according to Hayden's own words, her relationship with her mother became deeply strained, and she eventually cut professional ties with her own mom, saying that what she wanted for her mother was simply for her to be her mother. And that raises a much bigger question: What happens when the people that God gave a child to protect become the very people helping to turn the child into a product? This story isn't unique to Hollywood or the music industry. We've seen versions of this with Michael Jackson and Joe Jackson, Macaulay Culkin, Drew Barrymore, Miley Cyrus, Jennette McCurdy, and others. Different families, different circumstances, but a recurring pattern: A child becomes famous, the money starts coming in, and protecting the child can become secondary to protecting their career. But children are not investments. They're not vehicles for our dreams, nor opportunities to live vicariously through their success. And when Hollywood wants access to your child, the question shouldn't be, "How famous can we make them?" It should be, "How do we protect them?" Stop me if you've heard this before. A formerly self-proclaimed Christian band starts performing alongside a band with openly blasphemous music. And when you take a closer look at the band's current theological positions, you begin to see something else: a gradual drift away from a distinctly biblical worldview. Sound familiar? We've seen this story before with artists like Amy Grant, Jon Steingard, formerly of Hawk Nelson, Kevin Max, formerly of DC Talk, and others within the Christian music industry. The latest to engage in this apparent Christian music pastime is the formerly professing Christian metal band Fit for a King, who are now touring with an openly blasphemous band, Motionless in White, whose song titles include “Dead as F***,” “Immaculate Misconception,” “Thoughts and Prayers,” and no this is not in a positive light. And upon further research, it does seem like the theological drift was the precursor for them singing next to scoffers and mockers while claiming to still have a relationship with Christ, which we will examine today.
