SinBin.vegas Podcast #343: Weird Team So Far

Recap: The Golden Knights were looking to wrap up their road trip with a victory in Columbus over the Blue Jackets. Columbus jumped out first with a goal seven minutes into the opening frame. After twenty minutes the home team held a 1-0 edge. Immediately in the middle frame, the Golden Knights were awarded a power play opportunity which Pavel Dorofeyev took advantage of. Dorofeyev tied the game, scoring his 13th goal of the season. The game was locked in a 1-1 tie after two periods of action. Five minutes into the final period the Blue Jackets regained their one goal lead. The Golden Knights answered right back with a goal from defenseman Ben Hutton. Late in the period, Brayden McNabb snapped the tie and gave Vegas a 3-2 advantage. Vegas fought off a late 6-on-4 to complete their victory. The Golden Knights record improves to 16-6-9 defeating the Blue Jackets 3-2 in Columbus. Next up, Vegas will travel home and prepare for their next game on Wednesday. (Recap by Jason) Analysis: The Golden Knights looked a lot like a team at the end of a road trip, essentially out of gas and trying to hang on. Somehow though, they battled their way through, without playing well for most of the game, and defeated a Columbus team that can’t seem to get out of its own way. The road trip ends with an incredible 4-0-1, but the play to get them there was no where near as impressive. Recap: The Golden Knights were looking to start December off on the right foot with a home victory against the Chicago Blackhawks. Vegas struck first thirty seconds into the opening period. Ivan Barbashev was awarded his 9th goal of the season but Chicago immediately answered back. After twenty minutes of action the game was locked in a 1-1 tie. Chicago snapped the 1-1 tie with an unassisted goal midway through the period. Vegas defenseman Ben Hutton evened the score 2-2 with his 3rd goal of the season. Blackhawks star Connor Bedard scored on a brilliant individual move to regain his team’s advantage. Vegas heavily pressured Chicago in the final frame and it paid off. Braeden Bowman scored his fifth goal to even the score 3-3 and force overtime. Eventually the game was decided by Vegas in a shootout where Pavel Dorofeyev and Shea Theodore scored while Carter Hart stopped three of four. The Golden Knights record improves to 12-6-8 defeating the Blackhawks 4-3 in SO. Next up, Vegas will hit the road for the next five games beginning on Friday. Puck drop against the New Jersey Devils is scheduled for 4 PM. (Recap by Jason) Analysis: This was not a particularly good game for the Golden Knights from a systems perspective. They allowed a heap of odd-man rushes, which led to Bedard’s snipe and a bundle of penalties. VGK’s offense just never really got sustained pressure and even when they did the Knight in the other goal was very good. But, they kept pushing down the stretch and found a way to get the game tied. In overtime, the Hawks were all over the Golden Knights, but Hart kept them in it with a few great stops. Theodore won it with his favorite move in shootout. Recap: The Golden Knights hosted the Ottawa Senators for a pre-Thanksgiving matchup at T-Mobile Arena. Ottawa answered quickly into the game to take a 1-0 lead. Vegas pushed back and finally got on the scoreboard with minutes remaining in the period. With seconds left Ottawa regained their two-goal advantage. Jack Eichel scored his 250th career NHL goal to get his team within one. Ottawa was awarded a late period power play opportunity which Vegas promptly killed off. In his return from injury captain Mark Stone tied the game 3-3 with a crucial power play goal. After regulation the game needed an overtime and eventually a shootout to decide a winner. The Golden Knights record drops to 10-5-8 falling to the Senators 4-3 in shootout. Next up, Vegas will welcome the Montreal Canadiens for an afternoon matchup on Black Friday. They completely shut down the Senators’ attack for the last 40 minutes and were able to get a cheap goal to tie it on the power play (after having many better chances on the previous ones). Recap: The Golden Knights began a three-game road trip in Utah to face the Mammoth. Vegas was awarded a cross-checking penalty but couldn’t convert their opportunity into a goal. After 20 minutes, the game was locked in a scoreless tie. Vegas came out hot to start the middle frame. First, Jack Eichel opened the scoring 3:09 into the period, and Ben Hutton followed 19 seconds later. The Mammoth cut the Golden Knights’ lead in half but Eichel regained VGK’s two-goal advantage. 45 seconds into the final 20 minutes, Braeden Bowman scored his third career goal, giving his club a 4-1 lead. The Golden Knights’ record improves to 10-4-6 defeating the Mammoth 4-1 in Utah. Next, up Vegas will take a short flight to Anaheim before returning back to Utah for another game with the Mammoth. Recap: The Golden Knights welcomed in the first place Anaheim Ducks for a Pacific Division battle. Vegas took the early edge 5:47 into the opening twenty minutes. Late in the period Anaheim evened the score 1-1. Midway through the middle frame the Ducks took a 2-1 advantage. Anaheim added to their lead late in the frame to take a two-goal lead into the second intermission. Pavel Dorofeyev scored a quick power play goal to start off the final period. The Golden Knights continued to pressure the Ducks down the stretch and created several chances and rebounds. Defenseman Kaedan Korczak tied the game 3-3 with his second goal of the season. The game needed overtime to decide a winner. Eventually, the Ducks won the game late in OT. The Golden Knights record drops to 7-3-4 falling to the Ducks 4-3 in overtime Next up, Vegas will host the two-time reigning champion Florida Panthers on Monday. (Recap by Jason) Analysis: The middle frame was troublesome for the Golden Knights once again and it forced a tall hill to climb against a team that’s growing in confidence in the Anaheim Ducks. Recap: The Golden Knights took on the Colorado Avalanche in a Nevada Day afternoon matchup of two of the best teams in the NHL. On the first shift of the game, Martin Necas scored a goal on Colorado’s first shot. The Golden Knights had a number of good looks to respond but couldn’t find a game-tying goal in the opening frame. VGK had a bundle of power plays in the 2nd period but the only goal that came from one was by the Avalanche right as one ended. Brock Nelson got a breakaway and beat Carl Lindbom to make it 2-0. Vegas got a couple more power plays that led to a 4-on-3 in which Tomas Hertl jammed a puck home to cut the lead in half. But, Brent Burns fired one from the slot that restored the two-goal lead for Colorado. A lucky hop on an own goal by Burns got Vegas back within one but the empty netter finished it off. On the state holiday, the Golden Knights fall 4-2 to Colorado and drop to 6-2-3 on the season. Next up, Vegas will continue the homestand against the Detroit Red Wings. Puck drop on Tuesday is scheduled for 7 PM. (Recap by Ken) Analysis: The Avs scored on the very first shift of the game and while VGK looked like they were poised to answer quickly it didn’t come. Vegas had a ton of power play looks and finally scored one on a 4-on-3, but special teams was a massive problem in this one. Cassidy is looking for the answers at 5-on-4, but can’t seem to find them. Recap: The Golden Knights wrapped up their three game road trip with a matchup with the Carolina Hurricanes. The home team struck first 3:46 into the game. Minutes later Pavel Dorofeyev evened the score 1-1 with his eighth goal of 2025-26. Late in the opening period Dorofeyev added his ninth goal of the season. Leading 2-1, the Golden Knights turned the puck over leading to a game-tying breakaway. After two periods the game was locked in a 2-2 tie. Carolina took a 3-2 lead quickly into he final twenty minutes but Vegas answered back. Brett Howden tied the game with his second goal of 2025-26. Jack Eichel took over late as he snapped the tie and extended VGK’s lead to 5-3. Tomas Hertl finished the game off with an empty net score. The Golden Knights’ record improves to 6-1-3 defeating the Hurricanes 6-3 in Carolina. Next up, Vegas will travel home for a six-game homestand beginning on Friday. (Recap by Jason) Analysis: Of the 10 games to open this season, the best two (by a pretty wide margin) have come against the Carolina Hurricanes. It started slowly, again, but it didn’t take too long for VGK to get going in this one. After the first TV timeout they found their skating legs and started to dominate possession of the puck. Carolina wouldn’t go away and there was a massive post that saved the Golden Knights in the 3rd, but the better team won this one.
