I recently had the privilege of sitting down with three cardiology fellows who also happen to have their own podcast ‘The cardio nerds’. The next three episodes will be a three part series on heart failure.

This is the perfect topic to bring in the experts! They had so many pearls to share which is why this will be divided into three parts. Today, we’ll be focusing on defining heart failure, the different types and classifications, and etiologies of heart failure.

Things We Do for No Reason, Part 1 (GI Edition)

    19:53

This week, Dr. Sonpal will be covering part 1 of "Things We Do for No Reason." Why talk about the things we do for no reason? Have you ever ordered a test and thought "there has to be something better"? Have you ever found out that a test you used to order has been replaced? If you answered yes to either of these questions (or both), this episode is for you. In this episode, Dr. Sonpal summarizes what he believes to be the key GI takeaways from "Choosing Wisely: Things We Do For No Reason".  Don't forget, we'll be releasing a new episode every Monday at 4am PST, where we'll discuss a new primary care and/or internal medicine based topic. - Our goal at Medgeeks is to help you live the life you want to live as you navigate a career in medicine. The "Red Zone" Part 1

    28:24

Today, we'd like to introduce Dr. Niket Sonpal as the new host of the Medgeeks podcast!  Who is Dr. Sonpal? Well, besides being an internist and gastroenterologist, he's an assistant professor at Touro College of Medicine in Harlem New York. In addition to that, he's had the fortunate opportunity to be the co-author of "Master the Boards USMLE Step 2 and Step 3" . He's also faculty at Medquest Board review and was faculty at Kaplan for their medical test prep. He's also done a variety of lectures with Medgeeks as well.  All these things combined has led to a 10 year history of teaching students medicine, the boards, and of course the grand round circuit.  Today, we'll be going over some background data and the management of upper GI bleed. The reason for making this the very first episode is based on the fact that the guidelines have just been updated as of May 2021. So, the data presented today and the summation of it, will help you get through taking care of your patients who have upper GI bleeds. Dr. Sonpal likes to think of this podcast as your digital grand rounds. So, ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Red Zone Part 1.  -- Our goal at Medgeeks is to help you live the life you want to live as you navigate a career in medicine. 37:55

It’s been a very long time since I have jumped on the Medgeeks podcast. But, every year I share and reflect everything I have learned with the community...and this year is no different!  This episode is heavily focused on mental health and the pandemic. Much of what I discuss today is based off my personal experience, which is what shaped the growth of our company.  Today, I’ll be discussing: The Pandemic My experience with psilocybin  Why I started therapy and how it’s helped shape Medgeeks How our company doubled in size and brought on many full time employees in a time when many businesses were laying people off. The #1 mistake PAs and NPs make after graduation The secret to being the absolute best clinician you can be 4 main takeaways I learned in 2020 that changed my life It’s my hopes that I can do my small part to help squash the stigma behind mental health. After all, my fiance is a marriage and family therapist :). At the end of the episode, I ask to see if anyone is interested in discussing business and/or personal growth.
