I speak with IFMCP Pete Williams about oral health, and the oral microbiome, and the role it plays in systemic health. Research is clearly showing us that our oral health influences brain health, contributes to autoimmune conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis and impacts our gut health, potentially contributing to conditions such as SIBO. Pete has recently launched DNA Smile: https://www.dnalife.healthcare/dna-sm...

Evidence shows that certain gene variants have been implicated in the pathogenesis of periodontal disease. DNA Smile analyses 22 'SNPs' in 16 genes involved in 5 key biological processes associated with oral health outcomes. These variants have been linked to an altered immune and inflammatory response to pathogenic bacteria in the mouth, leading to increased risk for periodontitis. Insight into these areas assists with the targeted management of oral health and decreasing the risk for related chronic disease.
