#149 The Death of Janet Chandler

Hope College Film instructor David Schock came across Janet's story in the spring of 2003 while interviewing a detective who was retiring from the Holland police force. Schock asked if there was one case that still haunted the cop. Pointing to a photo of Janet that had been hanging on a bulletin board since 1979, the detective replied, "That Chandler case." Professor Schock thought the 24 year old mystery of the murdered former Hope student would be a good project for his class. "I don't want you to think that we are going to solve this murder," Schock told his students.  Instead by making a documentary about the case, they should aim to revive Janet's memory…that, they did, and by doing that, they exposed a dark truth no one saw coming.   CHECK OUT MILITARY MURDER PODCAST! codeword: creeper199       EVERYTHING TRUE CRIME GUYS: Merch: Facebook Twitter/Instagram: @TrueCrimeGuys @AndImMichael @sandupodcast STICKERS CREEPER MERCH       Sources:

    Introducing Suspect

A big Halloween party at an apartment complex in Redmond, Washington. Themed rooms and costumed partygoers. But by the end of the party, one of the hosts is dead. The police look to the partiers as the prime suspects: was it the guy in the devil mask, the bank robber, the construction worker? As investigators comb through forensic evidence, witness testimony, DNA, and even consult with a psychic, they zero in on one suspect in particular. But for what reason? Host and reporter Matthew Shaer (Over My Dead Body) returns to the scene of the crime, speaks with everyone about a night that still haunts them years later. It’s a series about race and policing, mislaid justice, cutting-edge science, and the kinds of weighty choices that cops and prosecutors make every day -- choices that, once made, are difficult to reverse.   Listen to SUSPECT:

    #146 The Ohio Sniper

Thomas Lee Dillon would find his victims along the byways of rural Ohio. There was no rhyme or reason to how he selected his targets, he just climbed in his pickup truck on weekends and would drive until he found someone utterly alone, a hunter, fisherman, a jogger. When he came upon them he would turn his truck around, pull out his rifle, take aim and, as he later told the police, he would never miss. Investigator: “You only shot the two times? There were no misses in that particular shooting? Dillon: Never miss. Investigator: Never miss? Dillon: Never miss. Investigator: Basically you’re a pretty good shot? Dillon: That's why we're here, isn't it?   EVERYTHING TRUE CRIME GUYS: Merch: Facebook Twitter/Instagram: @TrueCrimeGuys @AndImMichael @sandupodcast STICKERS CREEPER MERCH     Sources:
