Although somewhat a thing of the past, the US Open has a long history of crazy setups, some reaching the point to where players discussed not being willing to play the event or to boycott the event altogether. While the devil on my shoulder hopes that we have not moved on from those sorts of US Opens for good, the angel says it's a positive thing for the game that the USGA has gotten their hands around how to make US Open courses a stern yet fair test.

With that being said, today we are talking about some of those US Opens that weren't so "stern yet fair" and were either more in the category of supremely stern or in a few cases, perhaps just downright south of fair. For the fan, one of the great byproducts of an event that gets a little ridiculous is the response from the players. The wildest events leave us with some of the best quotes, so for each of the 6 opens we discuss, we include some of the week's best quotes from players.

We hope you all enjoy this conversation!

Cheers,
