Episode 146 – A Taxidermied Tube Sock Weasel

54:20
Rewind 15 seconds
Fast Forward 15 seconds

The back half of August Around the World brings the show to Ecuador, where the animals are plentiful and the term “big boned” has a whole new meaning!

Jake pays a visit to some archeological sites of varying credibility to find lost golden libraries and curious skeletons. You don’t have to be 42 feet tall to laser a cave out of a mountain, but it helps. Then Wyatt walks through the possibilities of an unknown species (or two!) lurking in the rain forest. A predatory cat would probably be more successful in all black, but one does want a hint of color.

Episode 149 – In Germany, with My Vampire

    1:03:39

Fantastical exploits of the 19th century lead the boys on a slog through what can be best described as “ultraviolet prose”. And an unintentional amount of bat people!Wyatt tackles the sluggish flotsam of a fully unabridged article from The Wilson World in 1895 to get to the bottom of a weird skeleton situation. Then Jake forsakes the shackles of his sublunary life for some extremely heavily abridged adventures on the dang ol’ moon! That’s enough words for now. There were so many – TOO many – in those goddamned articles… Anyway, enjoy the show!EPISODE LINKSAll-purpose show links: https://superduperstitious.com/linksFour Phantoms email: fourphantomsbeer@gmail.comFour Phantoms website: https://www.fourphantoms.net/Four Phantoms store: https://four-phantoms-brewing-company.square.site/Four Phantoms on Untappd: https://untappd.com/FourPhantoms/beerWyatt’s storyLast of the Vampires: https://bit.ly/3CHFOK1Jake’s storyThe Great Moon Hoax: http://hoaxes.org/text/display/the_great_moon_hoax_of_1835_text/Bat people of the moon: https://bit.ly/3EM6Vp9Reverend Dick’s tortilla book: https://bit.ly/3kAX6lS See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

    Episode 147 – A Classic Lake-Based Parable

    59:48

All good things must come to an end, but also August Around the World has to as well. In any case, it’s Kenya time!Their long TREK finally at an end, the boys celebrate by checking out some cool Kenyan creatures and a lake that will kill you. Wyatt leads the way with the Nandi bear. It is neither Nandi, nor is it a bear – discuss. Then after an overdue Phantom update that definitely wasn’t just a clumsy way to pad his segment’s runtime, Jake makes a meandering intro to what is ultimately just a bunch of photos, which are super practical in an audio-based show.Listen to it right now, you common, hairy ant-bear!EPISODE LINKSAll-purpose show links: https://superduperstitious.com/linksHelp Lebanon: https://helplebanon.carrd.co/Help Haiti: http://www.haitiemergencyrelief.org/support-our-work/Help Afghanistan: https://www.npr.org/2021/08/17/1028483700/help-afghanistan-refugeesFour Phantoms email: fourphantomsbeer@gmail.comFour Phantoms website: https://www.fourphantoms.net/Four Phantoms store: https://four-phantoms-brewing-company.square.site/Four Phantoms on Untappd: https://untappd.com/FourPhantoms/beerWyatt’s storyBob Gymlan on the Nandi bear: https://youtu.be/8w98_sall1ADinopithecus: http://www.prehistoric-wildlife.com/species/d/dinopithecus.htmlGelada: https://andywildlifesafari.com/uploads/0000/1/2020/03/13/img-20191212-110115-294-1.jpgJake’s storiesSimbi Nyaima: https://bit.ly/3zo1UzRLegend of the village that sank: https://paukwa.or.ke/simbi-nyaima/Lake Natron: https://www.livescience.com/40135-photographer-rick-brandt-lake-natron.htmlPhotos: https://bit.ly/38e9mBX See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Episode 145 – The Moscow Death Zone Hot Boys

    55:35

August continues to go around the world or whatever, all thanks to a purely arbitrary programming decision two years ago! It’s Russia o’clock mofos, so you KNOW the boys are bringing their A-game by way of dragons and radio stations. Wyatt pays a visit to Lake Brosno, where a monster the size of a sand mountain (the SI unit for dragon volume) has been swallowing everyone and everything that dares cross its watery domain. It’s real! It is not marmalade! Jake then takes to the airwaves with a look at numbers stations – mysterious radio stations involving numbers – and focuses on one station in particular: MDZhB, also known as UVB-76, also also known as The Buzzer. There’s no time for additional cute references turned into calls-to-action: listen to the dang old episode!EPISODE LINKSAll-purpose show links: https://superduperstitious.com/linksFour Phantoms email: fourphantomsbeer@gmail.comFour Phantoms website: https://www.fourphantoms.net/Four Phantoms store: https://four-phantoms-brewing-company.square.site/Four Phantoms on Untappd: https://untappd.com/FourPhantoms/beerWyatt’s storyAlmasty video: https://youtu.be/XhYxK2rjHI0Mysterious Universe: https://mysteriousuniverse.org/2021/03/the-mystery-of-the-lake-brosno-dragon/Ancient Origins: https://www.ancient-origins.net/myths-legends-europe/brosno-dragon-0011946Ranker: https://www.ranker.com/list/brosno-dragon-russian-cryptid/erin-mccannJake’s storyBBC article: https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20170801-the-ghostly-radio-station-that-no-one-claims-to-runSample of The Buzzer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wcv_cGLjxCYPhotos: https://bit.ly/3iGkRYMMoar recordings of The Buzzer: https://bit.ly/3CLFjj2Radar test example: https://youtu.be/wgwk_A2DPCkThe Lincolnshire Poacher: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Poacher.ogg See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Episode 144 – Classic Bed Ants

    54:40

It’s this year’s first installment of August Around the World, and that means both alien and ghostly Thailand tales!Jake kicks this globetrotting month off with a pretty lukewarm ghost encounter following a visit to a Buddhist shrine, but he rounds this out with a thankfully more colorful story. And that color? YELLOW. Talkin’ ’bout a weird little yellow thingy floating around and weirding out some farmers before exploding in the sky.Wyatt then follows that yellow thing’s trajectory right out to the stars, with a not-quite-doomsday-cult but also not NOT a doomsday cult who specializes in receiving crucial telepathic communications from aliens. The world hasn’t ended yet, so maybe they’re onto something…Infinity explorers assemble! And by that we of course mean listen in for another rousing episode of Superduperstitious.EPISODE LINKSAll-purpose show links: https://superduperstitious.com/linksFour Phantoms email: fourphantomsbeer@gmail.comFour Phantoms website: https://www.fourphantoms.net/Four Phantoms store: https://four-phantoms-brewing-company.square.site/Four Phantoms on Untappd: https://untappd.com/FourPhantoms/beerJake’s storiesReddit Thailand trip: https://bit.ly/37lyUwvInfinity Explorers: https://www.infinityexplorers.com/about-us-infinity-explorersFlying yellow humanoid article: https://bit.ly/3CfuZzzPhoto of sketch of creature: https://bit.ly/3CoqK4zIllustration of creature: https://bit.ly/3jIXNInAdditional sketch: https://bit.ly/3xrBMCzWyatt’s storyBangkok Post article: https://bit.ly/37nsrB9Vice article: https://bit.ly/3AhtUp6 See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

    Episode 143 – Baby That's Scary

    1:00:09

This week’s episode features luminous ghost children and a bunch of visual content presented in an audio medium. We’re good at this!Jake explores the night vision horribleness of modern day baby monitors and the many ghosts they capture on camera, but first, Wyatt examines what is so far the phenomenon most likely to get this show cancelled. Episode 142 – Still Sounds Bad

    1:09:58

What’s that sound? It’s either a signal of the End Times, metal stuff, a weird fish, various hoaxes, a microwave weapon, something completely psychological – or it’s the latest episode of Superduperstitious! This week, learn all about the 2010s phenomenon of sky trumpets and their probably not-so-apocalyptic origin, and yet again revisit Havana syndrome, which was at first maybe some kind of sonic attack but also maybe just bugs, and then possibly mass hysteria, but now potentially an honest-to-goodness microwave weapon, or else still just mass hysteria. 55:21

YES you heard right: the much beloved recurring segment you all have been hankering for and definitely haven’t totally forgotten about is BACK.In Part 2 of this lots-o-parts series, the boys head to the states where they were born in search of spooks! For Wyatt, this means an extremely haunted mansion in Pennsylvania that was not known for its still-attached heads. Did it really scare folks for decades and then get cratered, or is there nothing left to believe in anymore? As for Jake, it’s monster time in the woods of Maine! What was the mysterious creature screaming in the night and mauling local pets? And did it died?Protect your pog collection and I guess just avoid Pittsburgh as you settle into another edition of Home State Horrors!EPISODE LINKSAll-purpose show links: https://superduperstitious.com/linksFour Phantoms email: fourphantomsbeer@gmail.comFour Phantoms website: https://www.fourphantoms.net/Four Phantoms store: https://four-phantoms-brewing-company.square.site/Four Phantoms on Untappd: https://untappd.com/FourPhantoms/beerWyatt’s storyThe House on Ridge Avenue: https://www.americanhauntingsink.com/ridgeThe real story: https://blog.historian4hire.net/2019/12/17/ghosts-and-gangsters/Edison’s spirit phone: https://bit.ly/3wmcs0gJake’s storyThe Androscoggin Creature: https://www.livescience.com/1018-mystery-monster-dogs-maine.htmlArchived news article: https://web.archive.org/web/20061029122457/http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14383883/Moar Maine monster dog stuff: https://www.sunjournal.com/2006/08/16/mysterious-beast/2020 sighting: https://bit.ly/3wv9kiyPHOTOS: https://www.instagram.com/p/CRFQWA_FqGG/ See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
