FSU football vs UNC Film Review: Is FSU on the right track?
For two years in a row, the Florida State Seminoles have upset the North Carolina Tar Heels in football. North Carolina raced out to a 10-0 lead but quickly lost hold of the initiative. From that point on they never felt like they got their feet back under them. FSU played measured, ball control football, and widdled UNC down for the rest of the game. Much of FSU’s offensive production came off of a career day for quarterback Jordan Travis. He stayed patient in the passing game and took the reigns of the leader of the running game. The threat of his legs opened things up for FSU’s talented stable of running backs. Jashaun Corbin and Treshaun Ward received the carries that many fans had been clamoring for and took full advantage of them. Defensively FSU seems to be getting better on a game-by-game basis. Coverage was tight throughout the game and the defensive front is continuing to prove to be one of the better fronts in the conference. They let UNC quarterback Sam Howell run for over 100 yards but ultimately Howell was unable to beat the Seminoles using his feet. There was a lot of good in this game but even coaches can’t see everything on a single watch. So join the guys at the Triple Option as they rewatch one of the most complete games FSU has played in years.--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/tomahawknation/message

FSU football: Previewing Florida State vs. Boston College -- breakdown, prediction
53:35Boston College head coach Jeff Hafley seemed to have struck gold in his second year in Chestnut Hill. The Eagles raced out to a 4-0 start behind quarterback Phil Jurkovec, who looked to be one of the better QBs in college football. However, an early injury to their star QB led to them dropping their first four games in ACC conference play but things are back on the rise for BC. Jurkovec has returned and they’re riding a two-game winning streak going into this weekend. While BC is playing some of their best football as of late, this is a winnable game for the Florida State Seminoles. FSU Keys to Success Offense Take advantage of their undersized defensive line and slow linebackers in the running game Win with man beater concepts on the outside Give Jordan Travis space to scramble if BC’s man coverage is carrying defenders downfield Stay on the field and keep the ball out of Jurkovec’s hands Defense Limit the damage that Jurkovec’s favorite target Zay Flowers can do Shut down their zone heavy running game Stay patient in the secondary against their play-action shot plays Conclusions FSU has a big chance to continue this late-season turnaround this weekend. So if you want to be the best-prepared fan you can be, join Kevin Little and AB from the Triple Option as they show what some of these concepts look like in action. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/tomahawknation/message
FSU football vs. Miami: Breaking down Seminoles' big win over Hurricanes
1:24:56The Florida State Seminoles defeated the Miami Hurricanes by a score of 31-28. The Seminoles came out firing in the first half and they jumped out to a 17-0 lead off of the back of a few big turnovers. Miami cut the gap to 20-7 before the half. In the third quarter, Miami managed to continue building on their momentum, taking the lead going into the final quarter. However, FSU fought back and managed to get the lead with only a few seconds left on the clock to close out the rivalry victory. A few things stood out about this game. Offense The offense’s gameplan was comprehensive and built upon itself The counter-action by the line played with the eyes of Miami’s defense and opened up running lanes Miami made adjustments in the second half to blow up the counter run and slow down FSU’s rushing attack Defense The defensive line dominated and allowed the linebackers to play more out in space The safeties played aggressive and low to take away Miami’s bread and butter glance route There are some real solid young pieces on the secondary between Brownlee, Cooper, and Knowles If you want a chance to see how some of these concepts played out on the field or just want to rewatch a big rivalry victory for FSU then join the guys from the Triple Option as they take a deep dive into the film. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/tomahawknation/message

FSU football vs. Miami: Preview, breakdown, prediction
5:10There was a point in time where many believed that Miami Hurricane head coach Manny Diaz had completely lost control of his locker room and of their season. While the season still isn’t what many expected from the ‘Canes, they’ve found themselves in a little groove. They’ve won their last three ACC matches against two of the top three teams in the conference and a lot of that has to do with Tyler Van Dyke who seems to have cemented himself as their quarterback of the future. If you are a visual learner there is a short video with in-game film discussing all of the bullet points listed below. Offense Lost QB D’eriq King early- Van Dyke has stepped up and filled his shoes nicely Very RPO heavy offense Predicated on finding and exploiting one-on-one matchups Receiver Charleston Rambo and running back Jaylan Knighton are dangerous in space Troubles along the offensive line handicap this offense Defense The odd front one gap defense allows for upfield penetration by the D-line Very aggressive with pressure packages and stunts Relies heavily on fire zone blitzes with 5 blitzers and a 3 deep shell Struggles maintaining gap integrity This is a very talented Miami squad who can present a lot of problems to FSU if they play a complete game. However, the Hurricanes have a tendency to shoot themselves in the foot. If Florida State can maintain composure and limit their mistakes then they have a chance to win a big one in this rivalry. If they don’t then this might be a long game for the Seminoles. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/tomahawknation/message
Florida State vs. NC State: Preview, breakdown
5:12The NC State Wolfpack are coming to Tallahassee on Saturday to face off against the Florida State Seminoles. The Wolfpack have been the pinnacle of consistency under head coach Dave Doeren. The story every year looks much the same. The defense usually carries much of the load as they coast to seven to nine-win seasons. However, they’ve never quite turned the corner on a year with double-digit wins, but this season looks like it could be different. That's mainly because of the guy taking snaps behind center. Devin Leary has looked really sharp in his first full season back after dealing with health issues in his first couple of years on campus, but how does NC State utilize a kid of his talents? For those visual learners out there here is a video discussing all of the points listed below with narrated film: Offense very horizontal offense- base run is outside zone uses that horizontal action to set up counters and RPOs ultimately wants to take shots downfield to Devin Carter or Emeka Emezie runs a fair amount of mesh concept to get Leary in rhythym While the offense has some big-time skill players, the strength of this team is its defense. Defense aggressive 3 down defense throws lots of zone blitzes at the offense solid in pursuit- prioritizes speed on the field susceptible to one on one matchups and shots against the spot drop zone looks Conclusions This is a solid team whose defense will present FSU with some issues. If the ‘Noles can manage to move the ball downfield with the running game then they should be able to outpace the ‘Pack but if they have to rely too heavily on restricting Leary then FSU might be in trouble. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/tomahawknation/message
FSU football: Instant Reaction to Florida State loss at Clemson
39:20On Saturday afternoon the Florida State Seminoles battled a tough Clemson team and came up short of the victory. It was a difficult loss as the Noles took the lead with about five minutes left in the game. Clemson was on the right side of three 15-yard penalties late that helped them find the end zone and ultimately earn the win. While we are sick of talking moral victories (and you won’t find any of that in the instant) FSU continues to take strides in the right direction. Come take a listen to Kev and Coach AB give their instant reaction thoughts to the game. They talk blame, adjustments, and special teams. In games this close it is always a matter of inches and we talk about how the two teams went about earning those inches. Instant Reaction: FSU vs. UMass, Seminoles score 59 in blowout win
19:54The Florida State Seminoles took care of business at home against the University of Massachusetts Minutemen ending with a final tally of 59-3. Quarterback Jordan Travis led a dynamic running game in the first half that saw multiple players get productive touches. It also gained enough separation for backup quarterback Chubba Purdy to get some run. The defense still has some holes that need to be plugged but it’s hard to be too upset when they hold the opposing team to three points, all of which came off of a fumble on the opening kickoff. There were also a lot of interesting schematic things to take away from this game. If you want an X’s and O’s perspective of the first real blowout FSU has experienced with Mike Norvell then join Kevin Little of the Triple Option as he gives his thoughts on the game which comes complete with a little chalk-talk. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/tomahawknation/message
