Can FSU hoops upset Duke?
4:28Florida State Seminoles basketball is set to take on the No. 6 Duke Blue Devils. FSU (10-5, 4-2 ACC) is coming off its third straight win, a close back-and-forth affair vs. Syracuse, while Duke (14-2, 4-1 ACC) has bounced back from an upset loss to Miami by racking up consecutive wins vs. Wake Forest and NC State. FSU needs to take advantage of all their opportunity to make the statements they can with the season dwindling down, but it’ll be tough against the Blue Devils, whose two losses were by 5 and 2 points. “We need games like what we’re facing tomorrow night to let our guys know what it’s like to go against the best,” head coach Leonard Hamilton said on Monday. “To be able to compete against the best, you have to be at your best. This is the way it is in the ACC.” “Duke’s up next so we’ve got to be at our best. The inexperience, the adjustment, learning each other, at this point, we’ve got to get past that.” Duke did showcase some weaknesses in that two-point loss to Miami last week, a team that FSU recently beat. Will Florida State being able to capitalize on those weakness, while also overcoming its own struggles and personnel issues? --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/tomahawknation/message
FSU recruiting: Breaking down newest transfer portal Seminoles
50:33As the college football world collectively waves goodbye to the 2021-22 season, a plethora of college football players do the same to their old schools. These defectors, commonly referred to as “transfers,” are dramatically altering the landscape of the sport, and teams’ rosters, at a rapid pace. The Florida State Seminoles are one of those teams in need of a rapid and dramatic change of their roster. Two coaching changes at the infancy of the Early Signing Period period have created holes in the roster that are yet to be filled but in these past couple of weeks, the ‘Noles have taken significant steps towards alleviating some of these issues. The biggest transfer commit came with defensive end Jared Verse. He has elite length and athleticism and if he could smooth out a few rough edges he could be a guy that replaces some of the production left behind by Jermaine Johnson. Another infusion of defensive talent came with linebacker Tatum Bethune from UCF. He is a rangy linebacker who at worst gives more depth to a thin position and at best gives you a linebacker you can rely on for any down and distance. On the other side of the ball, the receiver position was bolstered with the commitment of Winston Wright from West Virginia. He may be the most game-ready of the three true wide receiver transfers taken in this offseason. This particular group of transfers is an exciting one but words can only do these kids so much justice. So jump in with the guys from the Triple Option as they break these kids down to see what kind of impact they can make for FSU next season. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/tomahawknation/message
FSU recruiting: Breaking down 2022 early enrollees, latest transfer portal updates
54:43It’s been almost one month since the highs and lows of Early Signing Day for the Florida State Seminoles and already, a lot has changed. To say this is a roster overhaul would be selling the staff short on what they’ve accomplished. On this episode of the Florida State of Recruiting podcast, the Three Stars discuss which players from #Tribe22 have made it, or are en route to Tallahassee for the start of the Spring semester. In addition to the high school enrollees, the Seminoles are expecting nine transfers. In total, FSU is bringing in one of its largest early enrollee classes. FSU football recruiting: AJ Duffy at the All-American game and transfer film breakdown
42:48The end of the early signing period used to mean that coaching staffs could step back, take a sigh of relief, and have a minute with their families before spring rolled back around. However, in the days of the transfer portal, that no longer remains a possibility. The Florida State coaching staff is no exception. They have been hot on the trail overhauling this roster one transfer at a time. In the past couple of weeks, three transfers have inked a spot on FSU’s 2022 roster. Two of those signees have been receivers adding the smooth striding Deuce Spann and the massive hybrid tight end Johnny Wilson. They also signed floor-raising defensive back right from under the nose of their ACC Atlantic foe Louisville. In other FSU newcomer news, four-star quarterback commit AJ Duffy outshined some major competition this past week in the Under Armour All-American game. He was lauded for his accuracy and decision making which he showed off on a national stage this past Sunday. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/tomahawknation/message
FSU football recruiting: Analyzing Seminoles signees
1:35:46Florida State football had a bittersweet week last week. While they stand far above their peers in Florida when it comes to the Early Signing Day recruiting haul, there are many that feel like the failure to bring in a few key recruits is a signal for a lack of investment into this program. However, there is still a lot of talent that will be making its way to Tallahassee in the coming season. Sam McCall, Azareyeh Thomas, and Julian Armella are three guys that still haven’t received the full scouting treatment from our own film crew of the Triple Option. This is a time of needed decompression. As the holidays draw nearer and ESD fades into the past its seemed timely to reflect on the good, the bad, and the ugly of FSU’s future- whether it’s the immediate impact of these top recruits or the pitfalls that may await the program as we roll further into the NIL era. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/tomahawknation/message

FSU football: Previewing Florida State vs. Boston College -- breakdown, prediction
53:35Boston College head coach Jeff Hafley seemed to have struck gold in his second year in Chestnut Hill. The Eagles raced out to a 4-0 start behind quarterback Phil Jurkovec, who looked to be one of the better QBs in college football. However, an early injury to their star QB led to them dropping their first four games in ACC conference play but things are back on the rise for BC. Jurkovec has returned and they’re riding a two-game winning streak going into this weekend. While BC is playing some of their best football as of late, this is a winnable game for the Florida State Seminoles. FSU Keys to Success Offense Take advantage of their undersized defensive line and slow linebackers in the running game Win with man beater concepts on the outside Give Jordan Travis space to scramble if BC’s man coverage is carrying defenders downfield Stay on the field and keep the ball out of Jurkovec’s hands Defense Limit the damage that Jurkovec’s favorite target Zay Flowers can do Shut down their zone heavy running game Stay patient in the secondary against their play-action shot plays Conclusions FSU has a big chance to continue this late-season turnaround this weekend. So if you want to be the best-prepared fan you can be, join Kevin Little and AB from the Triple Option as they show what some of these concepts look like in action. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/tomahawknation/message
FSU football vs. Miami: Breaking down Seminoles' big win over Hurricanes
1:24:56The Florida State Seminoles defeated the Miami Hurricanes by a score of 31-28. The Seminoles came out firing in the first half and they jumped out to a 17-0 lead off of the back of a few big turnovers. Miami cut the gap to 20-7 before the half. In the third quarter, Miami managed to continue building on their momentum, taking the lead going into the final quarter. However, FSU fought back and managed to get the lead with only a few seconds left on the clock to close out the rivalry victory. A few things stood out about this game. Offense The offense’s gameplan was comprehensive and built upon itself The counter-action by the line played with the eyes of Miami’s defense and opened up running lanes Miami made adjustments in the second half to blow up the counter run and slow down FSU’s rushing attack Defense The defensive line dominated and allowed the linebackers to play more out in space The safeties played aggressive and low to take away Miami’s bread and butter glance route There are some real solid young pieces on the secondary between Brownlee, Cooper, and Knowles If you want a chance to see how some of these concepts played out on the field or just want to rewatch a big rivalry victory for FSU then join the guys from the Triple Option as they take a deep dive into the film. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/tomahawknation/message
