4.45 Help Me!: Molly Audiss | Mouth
As we conclude this practical season I want to sum up my take away through a story:My son recently asked me my opinion about a certain genre of Christian music. He mentioned wishing that the Lord would make certain topics more clear so that he would know without a doubt if what he was doing was right or wrong. He then asked me how I made my decisions about topics which are not black and white in the Bible. It took time for me to formulate words to express my inward thoughts, but eventually I asked him, “On Saturday mornings is your flesh excited to get out of bed, put on a shirt and tie and go soul winning?” He answered, “no.” And then I asked him, “but after you go is there something inside you that is glad you did?” He answered, “yes!” Then I asked him, “In the morning when you are doing your daily Bible reading and prayer, is your flesh excited to get up a little earlier, to calm your mind and spirit, and commune with the Lord?” He answered, “no.” Then I asked him, “But after you read and prayed is there something inside you that is glad you did?” He answered, “yes!” Then I put on the genre of music he was talking about. He said, "No!!! Mom please don't do that." (I think he was embarrassed to listen to that music in front of me.) I kept it on and I asked, “When you listen to this genre of Christian music do you have to fight your flesh and listen to your spirit in order continue listening?” He said, "No." Then I put on a Ron Hamilton song. I asked, "Does this appeal to your flesh?" He said, "No." I asked him to listen to the words and we just sat there. Then I asked him, "Was your spirit fed through that song? He agreed it was. I said, "There is your clear answer." To me, the enemy fights me tooth and nail for anything that is good! He does not want me to yield to my spirit he wants me to yield to my flesh. When I put on good godly Christian music, my flesh dies and my spirit wins and afterwards I am glad that I did! (The Apostle Paul writes about this inward fight at the end of Romans 7.) Thats what this season is all about. Guests helping us die to our flesh and live to our spirit. Today is tough one. My number one nemesis.
