On this week’s episode of the HappyCast, we are joined by returning guest AND recently crowned Bigfoot 200 winner, Jessica Schiller! This was Jessica’s first 200 mile race, and she was up against some stiff competition.

This year, Bigfoot 200 had a major reroute last minute after a file broke out near the middle of the course. So instead of the traditional point-to-point 200+ mile course that traverses around the Cascades, folks were challenged with a double out-and-back course that had them do one of the hardest sections of the entire race not once, but four times! We talk to Jessica about the challenges that this reroute provided, and how she was able to mentally stay focused and run her own race.

Jessica also preaches the importance of just doing what she set out to do, and not focusing on anything else. She considers herself just a regular, “normal” runner that had a goal in mind and set out to achieve it. A consequence of that goal may have been winning the race, but her main focus was on just being able to run her own race the entire time.

From battling the elements, the mental challenges, and having a surprise pacer (Mika Thewes) pace her to a 1st place finish, we hear it all. And since she’s a friend of the show, some attempted derailments may or may not have occurred.
