After her husband was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease, she quit her job and dedicated her life to better understanding the root of the disease. She began to discover that the Western medical system didn’t have a lot of answers and in her research she discovered the importance of the gut microbiome, both in Parkinsons and chronic diseases at large. It was a pleasure to speak with Martha and have her share in her decades of work and knowledge. We spoke about disease, the gut microbiome, the deleterious consequences of many Western lifestyle practices, holistic approaches to healing, the mind-body connection, and many other topics. Hey everybody! Episode 148 of the show is out. In this episode, I spoke with Remi & Ashley of Kumankaya Healing Center. I had heard about Remi a number of years ago as I am friends with and have interviewed two of his friends and colleagues, Joe Tafur (ep15) and Martina Drassl (ep42). They spoke very highly of Remi and his dedication and skill to the plant medicine path. He was a Christian monk for a number of years before apprenticing with a renowned Shipibo Onaya (ayahuasquero) Ricardo Amaringo, at the healing center Nihue Rao. Hey everybody! Episode 145 of the show is out. In this episode, I spoke with Michal Scheffler. Michal was introduced to me by our mutual friend Marta (who I interviewed in episode 16). Michal has led a very fascinating and full life. He was a DJ for many years and holds two degrees in psychology. His interest in consciousness led him to Latin America and ayahuasca where he spent time with different indigenous groups such as the Huni Kuin, Yawanawa, Shuar, as well as the Santo Daime church. We spoke about this journey and then what led him to other teachers such as the Colombian taitas, Andean traditions, and the Tubu nation of the Colombian Amazon.
