Joe "Joe Doggs" Iannuzzi was a small-time gambler who became an associate of the Gambino crime family, rising in the ranks under the ruthless capo Tommy Agro in Florida. Despite his success managing the family’s gambling operations, tensions escalated when Agro accused him of skimming money. In 1981, Iannuzzi was savagely beaten by Agro’s men, a turning point that led him to become an FBI informant. Over two years, Iannuzzi recorded key Mafia conversations, leading to the conviction of Agro and others. After testifying, Iannuzzi entered the Witness Protection Program and later wrote a memoir, The Mob: Inside the Brutal World of the Mafia. Though he remains in hiding, his cooperation dealt a significant blow to the Gambino family, and his story stands as a rare example of survival and defiance in the dangerous world of organized crime.
