Others may prioritise comfort or self-expression through their clothing choices. “I'm not one to judge, but it surprises me how casually people dress nowadays, even for formal occasions. I find it odd that many opt for leggings and slippers even outside the home. I believe putting in a little effort to dress nicely isn't "extra" but rather normal. It's not as challenging as it seems, and it adds a touch of elegance and flair," she said. There's no denying that formal attire has become more relaxed over time. What was once considered a "must-wear" for a formal event might now be deemed overly stuffy. It's important to consider the context – a business meeting likely warrants a different approach than a wedding reception. Ultimately, the question of formality hinges on striking a balance between comfort, personal style, and respecting the occasion's tone. There's room for interpretation and what one person finds appropriate, another might not.

Stacey Norman asked the kiddos of KZN if they had any advice for the adults in the world (and especially the ones in their lives). We heard some stern kids with tremendous opinions about various topics that they were dying to share. East Coast kiddos left Stacey, sports lead Nick Tatham and traffic wizard Athi Baliso in stitches!

While peer pressure more often than not is felt by kids and teens, it can also radically impact adults. Regardless of the age group it impacts, peer pressure is regarded as unethical and has the potential to lead to negative consequences. In adults, peer pressure can be felt in a multitude of ways including through advertisements. While we develop stronger intent and emotions as we grow, adults are still more likely to obey figures of authority in certain situations. The South African College of Applied Psychology provided a few ways to resist and work through situations of peer pressure: Work on your self-esteem Having confidence in yourself allows you to feel happy with who you are and in turn, makes it difficult for you to be swayed by others. Practice saying no You have the right to refuse communication or leave a situation that you are not happy with. By setting healthy boundaries for yourself, you’ll ensure that you are able to protect yourself and what you stand for. Filter your social media Studies have shown that social media can impact people’s behaviour and the reasons why they do things. It’s essential to be part of groups that push a positive outlook on life.

Running out of petrol on a Durban highway can turn a scenic drive into a hot and sunny wait. Beyond the inconvenience, are there legal repercussions for this unfortunate situation? In South Africa, there's no national law specifically targeting empty fuel tanks. However, stopping on a highway is generally a no-go and Durban is no exception. The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport enforces this regulation and the eThekwini Municipality can issue fines of between R500 and R1,000 for stopping on the highway due to an empty fuel tank. On top of the fine, towing and recovery can add a hefty cost to your unexpected pitstop. While specific details on fines might be difficult to find online, contacting the eThekwini Traffic Department directly can provide the latest information. Avoid becoming a statistic on the highway. With the news of e-tolls being scrapped, Stacey Norman and J Sbu had another thought pop into their heads. The duo asked East Coasters if there's anything they would like to see go and we had some intriguing responses.

Sisters are built-in best friends, keepers of secrets and sometimes...well, they’re none of the above. The pandemic threw a lot of curveballs our way and sibling relationships weren't immune. We recently received this message: "My sister and I have been at odds since the pandemic. I'm accustomed to her rudeness toward me. But she ignores my kids, even on their birthdays! Do I let it go? What do I do?" While it's okay to have a complicated dynamic with your sister, involving innocent parties (your kids) has an array of downfalls. So, what can you do? We found a few well-researched methods to hopefully start mending your relationship: Have an honest conversation (when emotions are not high): Let your sister know how her behaviour affects you and your children. Use "I" statements to express your feelings (e.g., "I feel hurt when you ignore the kids on their birthdays"). Communicating with kindness is key, according to experts at Harvard University. Consider a family activity (if the situation allows): Maybe some tension can melt away during a shared experience. Plan something neutral, focusing on having fun together. Shared activities can aid in building positive associations and strengthen bonds, as suggested by research from the Greater Good Science Center at the University of California. Set boundaries: If a conversation doesn't go well, you might need to create distance. It's okay to limit interactions or involve your parents for support. Remember, you can't control your sister's actions, but you can control how you respond. Prioritise your children's well-being, and don't be afraid to seek outside help if needed. Through clear communication and boundaries, you might be able to mend the relationship with your sister. In the meantime, focus on creating a positive and loving environment for your kids.

J Sbu is flying solo today and he asked the kiddos of KZN what new rules they'd put in place if they were school principal. Before the kiddos answered, we heard from traffic lead Andi James, who said she'd add a jumping castle to the field while sports buff Faheeda Crouch spoke about having more time to play. The kiddies of KZN, however, thought quite deeply about this topic. We even heard from a Grade 1 learner who wished to be principal just to give out detention!
