Welcome to another episode of the Health Upgrade Podcast.

Today's episode is a continuation of our last discussion where we were breaking down addictive drugs and types of medications. But we're now going to step into the effects of these medicines on our body, our brain and how to overcome these challenges when we become addicted to it. What happens in opioid abuse, cocaine abuse, and methamphetamine abuse is that we end up seeing a change in how neuropathology works. Where we will have an inability to control emotions, have erratic behavior and violent outburst. These things are all a function of the neuropathology that goes along disrupted neurotransmitter expression and disrupted cytokine expression which is a side effect of using these drugs. Alongside this is the destruction of the brain hypertrophy, basically a breakdown or atrophy of areas of the brain that are critical for normal function which can lead to cytotoxicity.

We will also be diving into the drug withdrawal symptoms that we will experience if we quit or reduce these addictive substances. These symptoms may depend on how long our exposure to these substances and the kind of drugs we have used. We have to remember the longer we use it, the more damage it may cause.
