Despite growing up in a political environment, Salim chose a path away from politics to build an economic empire in the world of software and financial technology.  Salim studied at Notre Dame Jamhour College in Lebanon before continuing his studies abroad due to the Lebanese Civil War. He joined the École Polytechnique in France, earned a degree in chemical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and later pursued an MBA at the University of Chicago.  In 1986, Salim co-founded "Murex" with Laurent Néel, which became a global leader in developing software for risk management in financial markets.  In addition to his professional achievements, Salim founded the "MIM" Museum in Beirut in 2013, which houses the largest private collection of minerals in the world. After his death on April 18 of the year 2006, Yasma dedicated her life to preserving his legacy through her involvement in various social and developmental initiatives, as well as her work with the Fuleihan Foundation, which aims to continue his role in Lebanon's development by improving public governance and building national capacities.Yasma speaks in this episode about her late husband's accomplishments, including his significant role in the Paris I and II agreements, and sheds light on his personal life and his relationship with Rafik Hariri. Send us a textIn this episode, Ricardo Karam meets Serwan Baran, an Iraqi Kurdish artist whose life has been a series of challenges and transformations, which are reflected in his work that embodies conflict, pain, and belonging.Born in Baghdad in 1968, he developed a passion for painting from a young age, which led him to study fine arts at Babylon University, where he graduated in 1992 as the first in his class.  After graduating, he began his career as a professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts at Baghdad University for seven years, but he soon realized that teaching limited his creative energy and decided to devote himself to his art. From being arrested at the age of 16 for a political joke, to the years of economic siege in the 1990s when he earned a salary of only $4 per month, to leaving Iraq and living in Syria and Jordan before later settling outside his homeland, Baran's life has been marked by difficult experiences that have characterized his life. Lina is the founder and president of Ajialouna Association, one of Lebanon’s largest charitable organizations, which focuses on supporting orphans, widows, healthcare, and education. A graduate in Oral Surgery and Dentistry from Cairo University in 1981, Lina has been practicing surgery and dentistry privately since then.
