Jesus, accused of associating with sinners, tells a three-part parable to illustrate divine forgiveness. In the first part, a father has two sons. The younger one asks for his inheritance and, after receiving it, leaves home and squanders everything in a reckless lifestyle. Reduced to misery, he decides to return to his father in repentance. The father, seeing him from a distance, runs to embrace him and, with great joy, throws a celebration for his return because "he was lost and has been found." The second part focuses on the father, who represents God. He shows extraordinary, unconditional love: despite the son’s mistakes, he restores him as a son, not as a servant, demonstrating God’s readiness to forgive anyone who sincerely repents. In the third part, the older son becomes angry upon seeing the celebration for his brother. He doesn’t understand the father’s attitude and refuses to join in, displaying pride and resentment. Even though he appears righteous, he too is “lost,” as he fails to grasp the depth of the father’s love and forgiveness. The parable ends with a profound lesson: it doesn’t matter if one identifies with the rebellious son or the devoted one—both need the father’s love and forgiveness. While the younger son found redemption by returning in repentance, the older son, though always faithful, became distant in heart due to his pride. Jesus invites us to recognize that everyone can become lost in different ways, but true salvation comes only through understanding and accepting God’s merciful love.

Gesù, accusato di frequentare i peccatori, racconta una parabola in tre parti per illustrare il perdono divino. Nella prima parte, un padre ha due figli. Il più giovane chiede la sua eredità e, una volta ottenutala, lascia la casa e sperpera tutto in una vita dissoluta. Ridotto in miseria, decide di tornare dal padre, pentito. Il padre, vedendolo da lontano, corre ad abbracciarlo e, con grande gioia, organizza una festa per il suo ritorno, perché "era perduto ed è stato ritrovato". La seconda parte si concentra sul padre, che rappresenta Dio. Egli dimostra un amore straordinario e incondizionato: nonostante gli errori del figlio, lo ristabilisce come figlio e non come servo, mostrando la prontezza di Dio a perdonare chiunque si penta sinceramente. Nella terza parte, il figlio maggiore si arrabbia vedendo la festa per il fratello. Non comprende l'atteggiamento del padre e rifiuta di partecipare, mostrando orgoglio e risentimento. Anche lui, benché apparentemente giusto, è "perduto", poiché non riesce a capire la profondità dell'amore e del perdono del padre. La parabola si conclude con un insegnamento profondo: non importa se ci si riconosce nel figlio ribelle o in quello devoto, entrambi hanno bisogno dell'amore e del perdono del padre. Mentre il figlio minore ha trovato redenzione tornando pentito, il figlio maggiore, pur rimanendo sempre fedele, si è allontanato nel cuore a causa dell'orgoglio. Gesù ci invita a riconoscere che tutti possono perdersi in modi diversi, ma che la vera salvezza arriva solo comprendendo e accettando l'amore misericordioso di Dio.

September is usually a month of new beginnings, much like January. Often, we're full of good intentions, but we don't always follow through. What are the motivations that push us forward? The story of Jesus and the woman caught in adultery highlights the idea of a "restart," a chance to begin anew. Jesus doesn't condemn the woman; instead, He urges her to evolve and not return to her past mistakes, emphasizing the importance of inner transformation. To stop sinning, it's not about trying harder but inviting God into your life so that His light can drive out the darkness.

Settembre è un mese di nuovi inizi, spesso simile a gennaio. Molte volte, siamo pieni di buone intenzioni, ma le motivazioni che ci spingono a proseguire non sono sempre forti. Attraverso il racconto di Gesù e la donna sorpresa in adulterio, emerge il concetto del "riavvio", ovvero un'opportunità per ricominciare. Gesù non condanna la donna, ma la invita a evolversi, a non tornare sui suoi errori, sottolineando l'importanza del cambiamento interiore. Per smettere di peccare, non basta cercare di farlo, ma bisogna invitare Dio nella propria vita affinché la sua luce scacci le tenebre.

Dobbiamo riflettere profondamente su noi stessi, andando oltre le apparenze e riconoscendo le proprie debolezze spirituali. Sottolinea i rischi di una vita di fede superficiale, come il vivere negando la verità, accettare compromessi, rimanere bloccati nel passato e cadere nell'arroganza. Per far crescere la propria fede, è fondamentale abbandonarsi a Dio, approfondire la conoscenza delle Scritture, mantenere una vita di preghiera costante e partecipare attivamente alla vita comunitaria, riconoscendo la propria identità spirituale.

We have to encourages us deep self-reflection, urging us to look beyond appearances and acknowledge our spiritual weaknesses. It highlights the dangers of a superficial faith, such as living in denial of the truth, compromising our values, being stuck in the past, and falling into arrogance. To nurture our faith, it's essential to surrender to God, deepen our understanding of the Scriptures, maintain a consistent prayer life, and actively engage in community life, all while recognizing our spiritual identity.

The Church is not just a place to attend, but an identity to embody. Christ has called us to be a Church on the move, steadfast in truth and constantly evolving. We are the salt and light of the world, with a mission: to proclaim the Gospel and live under the lordship of Christ. We cannot limit ourselves to attending services or criticizing, but must actively contribute, pray for the leadership, and respond to God's call. Being the Church means living the mission with passion, building a spiritual legacy that goes beyond our earthly life.

La Chiesa non è solo un luogo da frequentare, ma un'identità da incarnare. Cristo ci ha chiamati a essere una Chiesa in movimento, salda nella verità e in continua evoluzione. Siamo sale e luce del mondo, con una missione: proclamare il Vangelo e vivere sotto la signoria di Cristo. Non possiamo limitarci a partecipare ai servizi o a criticare, ma dobbiamo contribuire attivamente, pregare per la leadership e rispondere alla chiamata di Dio. Essere la Chiesa significa vivere la missione con passione, costruendo un'eredità spirituale che supera la nostra vita terrena.

La nostra missione è vivere con uno scopo. In questa nuova stagione della nostra vita, dobbiamo affrontarla con la stessa determinazione e disciplina di un atleta olimpico. Come insegna l'apostolo Paolo, dobbiamo correre con uno scopo, mantenendo il nostro focus su Dio e sulla nostra identità in Lui. La nostra corsa può essere "verso" qualcosa di significativo o "da" qualcosa che ci spaventa. Siamo tutti parte di un corpo unico, la Chiesa, e dobbiamo correre insieme, supportandoci a vicenda per compiere la missione che Dio ci ha affidato. Non guardiamo al passato, ma corriamo verso ciò che Dio ha preparato per noi.

Our mission is to live with purpose. In this new season of life, we need to approach it with the same determination and discipline as an Olympic athlete. As the apostle Paul teaches, we must run with intention, keeping our focus on God and our identity in Him. Our race can be "toward" something meaningful or "away" from something that scares us. We are all part of one body, the Church, and we must run together, supporting each other to fulfill the mission God has given us. Let's not dwell on the past, but run toward what God has prepared for us.
