Betty Joan Perske was 18 years old when she met 44 year-old screen star Humphrey Bogart on the sound stage of 'To Have and Have Not' at Warner Studios in Burbank, California, in 1942. Her picture had landed on the cover of a fashion magazine called Harpers which came in the mail to Warner film director Howard Hawks home- where his wife Slim picked it up and mentioned "You know what Howard, this might be the girl you're looking for for that movie". She was sent a letter and a train ticket to Hollywood, got a chance, worked for it, and was chosen as the leading lady in his upcoming movie, which turned out to be a smash hit. She became known to the world as Lauren Bacall- and she married Humphrey Bogart, enjoying one of Hollywood's truest marriages for 12 years until his early death. This is their story. FALL FAMILY SPECIAL In this episode we say goodbye to TV's highly successful Bluebloods police drama as it takes its leave after 14 years on CBS, and we honor the sacrifices of law enforcement families who make our country and our neighborhoods safe by putting their lives on the line every day.  We offer the valid reasons for the show's great success.one of those reasons being the Reagan family dinner which closed nearly every episode with an open discussion among the family which covering the moral and procedural challenges that their city and police force faced.   We also cover the police support organization known as C.O.P.S. which supports families of fallen police officers  and promotes the blue.  As of late November 2025, at least 86 law enforcement officers have died in the line of duty, while 285 have been shot (which includes both fatal and non-fatal shootings) in the U.S. this year. These figures come from organizations such as the National Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) and the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF).
