What's up, dudes? Art Kilmer from A Cozy Christmas is with me to talk about the 1985 Hasbro sponsored Christmas special "The GLO Friends Save Christmas!" It's insane, with Elder Wands, "Lost" smoke monsters, Care Bear stare-style glow, and Venus fly trap-esque ice flowers! What a trip! The GLO Friends are celebrating Christmas Eve by ice skating, decorating the village, and making snowmen. Granny Bug is even baking pies. Meanwhile, Blanche, the Wicked Witch of the North Pole, is jealous of Santa. She follows him and sabotages his yearly flight. In fact, she imprisons him and his reindeer in an icy spike-lined cage on a raging river, so they cannot deliver their presents on Christmas Eve. Her timid sidekick, Moose (not a lot of though put into that name) tries to stop her, but she zaps him far away with her magic. The GLO Friends find out what she's done, and they set out to try and save Santa. They rescue Moose from a tree along the way and let him guide them to Santa's location. Blanche tries to drown them in an icy deluge. Her scheme fails as they reach Santa despite her powers and rescue him with their soft, warm glow. Who knew that was more powerful against ice than a fire? GLO Worm? Yep. Santa? Check. Unimaginatively named moose? Only if he's played by Lorenzo Music! What's up, dudes? It’s a Siouxsie and the Banshees Christmas, as Rikki Meece from the Sleigh Bells and Mistletoe Podcast and I break down two songs from goth rock band! Yep, it’s “Israel” v ”Il Est Né Le Divin Enfant” in the Thunderdome! We talk the band’s catalogue, their Christmas music, their look and sound, and definitely their lyrics! In other words, we get into it all! Two songs enter, one song leaves!"Israel" was released as a stand-alone single in between the albums Kaleidoscope (1980) and Juju (1981) on November 28, 1980 by record label Polydor. While touring in Europe in autumn 1980, the band wanted to write a Christmas song to be released on time for December of that year. They composed it on the road, which was quite unusual for them. It was the first time that Siouxsie Sioux and Steven Severin composed a single with guitarist John McGeoch and drummer Budgie. The song was co-produced by Nigel Gray: it prominently featured a 30 singer Welsh choir on backing vocals. It soon became a classic of their repertoire and was regularly performed during encores at each of their tours.Subsequently, “Il Est Né Le Divin Enfant” was released as B-side to “Melt” on November 26, 1982. The tune for this carol can be found in R. Grosjean's Airs des noêl lorrain (1862), where it is called 'Ancien air de chasse', and it is indeed the case that an old Normandy hunting tune 'Tête bizarde', though in 6/8, is melodically very similar. The Shorter New Oxford Book of Carols editors postulated that the tune is an 18th century composition in a rustic style. The text of this carol was first published in Dom G. Legeay's Noêls anciens (1875-6). Most Common translation is from Edward Bliss Reed from 1930.Synths? Check. ‘80s Goth videos? Yup. 19th century carol with a quasi-canon? Definitely! What’s up, dudes? It’s the A-Team: four Vietnam vets, framed for a crime they didn't commit who help the innocent while on the run from the military. I’ve got Laramy Wells from Moving Panels and Joe Fulton the Christmas Aficionado with me to talk all about the Thanksgiving episode “Family Reunion!”On Thanksgiving, General Stockwell orders the A-Team to reunite a wanted criminal, A.J. Bancroft, with his daughter Ellen within 24 hours. In return, Bancroft will provide evidence that could bring down half the crooked politicians in Washington. Bancroft, who is terminally ill, has not seen his daughter in twenty years. However, Ellen knows all about his misdeeds from reading the papers. The old man has another reason to hire the A-Team specifically: he tells Murdock that Templeton Peck was born Richard Bancroft, his son. Bancroft’s former associates in crime don’t want their involvement to go public, so they send goons after Bancroft and his daughter. Can the A-Team intercept them and reunite the estranged family? Of course! That’s why they’re the A-Team! Unfortunately, not before Bancroft dies and misses the chance to tell Face that he’s his dad as well. Family, right?!Explosions? Check. Tricking out the van? Kevin Williams from ‘Tis the Soundtrack joins me to discuss the quirky yet wholesome Christmas special “Lollipop Dragon: The Great Christmas Race!” Brought to you by the Society for Visual Education, Inc., a division of the sewing company Singer, the special was part of a huge series of books, tapes, and other merchandise.The 1986 special sees Lolly and company hosting the big Christmas party in the land of Tum Tum where all the world’s lollipops are produced. When the aristocracy arrives, the herald issues a royal proclamation: “In honor of the season, a great Christmas race will be run.” Not only can anyone can enter, but the winner also gets lollipops made in their likeness and flavor of choice. Oh, and Santa will give them out to all children of the world for Christmas Day! What high stakes!Meanwhile Baron Bad Blood spies on the proceedings and decides to enter to spoil Christmas with liver flavored treats. He creates a jet-sleigh pulled  by chimeras to counter the panda-pulled and horse drawn sleighs of Lolli and gang. He also sabotages the other contestants Wacky Races style.
