    Going Alcohol-Free Later in Life

    46:46

Episode 184 Going alcohol-free isn’t about the finish line, it’s about the path of self-discovery + adventure + a new way of living. Going alcohol-free *can* be just like going gluten-free. You make a plan not to drink alcohol, and you practice that plan daily.  Alcohol-free = no alcohol.  I know, it sounds so easy. It's not, but the longer you go without drinking, the simpler it can be.   Going alcohol-free later in life supports your overall well-being as you age, just the same as a certain eating plan or exercise plan. It’s a lifestyle that if you let it, can be one of the best experiences of your life. In this episode, I talk about:    Changing our interpretation of alcohol-free living Making shame smaller by taking action The alcohol-free lifestyle: what it is and what it isn’t How to get started on your alcohol-free journey How to observe your drinking to cut back or quit  The #1 habit essential to going alcohol-free And a round of answers to some of the most frequent questions that I receive from beautiful badass women in the middle of life about sobriety, like:  Should I quit or moderate, the language of sobriety, how to rebound from a slip up so you don’t fall down the rabbit hole of drinking, feeling deprived while socializing, do you need the willpower to quit, what do I tell people about my choice to quit drinking, and how to make an alcohol-free lifestyle stick.      Thank you so much for listening! Getting Sober Over 60 with Janet Gourand

    53:16

Episode 182  Whether you’ve been drinking for decades or picked up the bottle in midlife, it’s never too late to enjoy the benefits of sobriety. As we age, those benefits far outweigh the quick fix that comes with drinking.  My guest, Janet Gourand knows a thing or two about reaping the sobriety benefits later in life. Janet chose to quit drinking at 63, having no idea at how many opportunities she was giving herself after years of heavy drinking.  When Janet stopped drinking she could find very little support available in South Africa and did not want to go into rehab and decided AA was not for her.  In this episode, you will hear how Janet got sober and the resources that worked for her.  Janet became so passionate about helping people moderate or quit drinking alcohol, that she founded Tribe Sober, an online community that holds workshops and meetings for people all over the world.  You will also hear: The three pivotal moments in Janet's drinking that she reflects back on now as "rock bottoms"  The benefits of sobriety later in life  The risks of alcohol use  The importance of community in sobriety The power of being an introvert To read this episode's full show notes, click here.   To Connect with Janet Tribe Sober  Facebook Tribe Sober Podcast   Connect With Lori! Boss Up and Change Your Life

    26:14

Episode 180  Are you ready to get pumped up?  I recorded this episode for you after a treadmill session with myself where I was heavily inspired by Lizzo and her song Good as Hell. She says, "Boss UP and Change Your Life, and I took that lyric to heart in the song.  I have spent a couple of months feeling down about something out of my control and decided I needed a kick in my bootie, and maybe you do too.  In this episode, I talk about: What I've been "wallowing" in lately Life begins when you get out of your comfort zone Delay gratification for a higher goal The secret to a faster change is taking the road that is less traveled How fear deters you from success How to get results is by doing something consistently Do not compare yourself with others; we are all in different chapters Rejoice in your little progress; baby steps are still steps  I'm talking about "bossing up" when things are out of your control and you are spending too much time trying to control your circumstance. If you are suffering from depression, illness or grieving, please know that you need time to heal and recover. I understand how you feel. Please take care of yourself.  Connect with me here: Website:   https://www.lorimassicot.com/ Instagram:   https://www.instagram.com/lorimassicot/?hl=en   *****Thank you so much for listening.
