Hurricane Ida was a Category 4 hurricane, first causing massive damage to Louisiana as it made landfall and later flooding New York City and other areas across the eastern half of the United States. At the same time, the Caldor Fire and Dixie Fire are burning across South Lake Tahoe and the Sierras. Why are we experiencing more extreme weather disasters? CBS News Meteorologist and Climate Specialist Jeff Berardelli explains how a warming planet has made hurricanes, wildfires, droughts, and floods so much worse. He also explains the importance and potential collapse of the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation, also known as AMOC or the Gulf Stream.

Jeff Berardelli has been a broadcast meteorologist for more than 25 years. He is currently the CBS News Meteorologist and Climate Specialist, reporting on extreme weather and the climate crisis across all CBS News broadcasts and platforms.
