
Breathing in fully and deeply relaxes us, calms us and gives us the life energy we need to survive. We take in, on average, between 18,000 and 20,000 breaths each day and over 5,000 gallons of air!! Our lungs have the capacity to hold up to 2 pints of air and yet most people breathe in 1 pint or less. When we breathe in, our body immediately distributes this oxygen to every cell in our body. Breathing in through our left nostril is considered a lunar, or moon breath, which slows down our metabolism, calms down our nervous system and helps us relax. This meditation is best done when you want to fall asleep or when you are feeling restless and can't quite drift off to sleep. As with all of the 5-Minute Meditations, we start with deep breathing in and out through the nose, but with this one, we will also introduce the first part of the calming moon breath to help us relax and get our bodies ready for deep sleep.
