Now, some of you may recall (from our social media posts and prior episode mentions) that this weekend was supposed to mark our appearance at the Midnight at Dawn Kink Convention in Sudbury, Ontario. Unfortunately, the event was cancelled. But Becca and I decided - hey now, why let that stop us? So we wrangled in friend of the podcast and fellow con exhibitor Laura from Alex Deviant Creations and decided to try to simulate the kind of shit-shooting conversations we would have likely had as booth neighbours at the actual convention. What followed was a robust chat where we discussed everything from the importance of community building, to when to give grace when people mess up on our queer identities, vs when to tell them where to go. (Spoiler: it comes down to whether or not they're genuinely trying in good faith and if they're open to learning better/doing better, though of course your mileage may vary). Alright everyone - suit up and report to the Blackbird in 5; we're going on an adventure with the X-Men! It's no secret that Becca and I are MASSIVE nerds, and the X-Men in particular have always been near and dear to both of our hearts. With the recent release (and conclusion) of season 1 of X-Men '97 on Disney+, we felt the time was right to do a deep dive into why we love these characters, how they resonate with both of us, and how the X-Men have always been a powerful allegory for those of us who are different.
