Yannis Konstantinidis just flew back from New York with a Grand Clio, but he isn't here for the victory lap. Twenty years into running an animation studio, he thinks roughly nine-tenths of the industry he grew up in is quietly disappearing, and that the part worth saving is the part you can see someone bled to make. We get into costly signalling, cathedrals, why AI output feels like an insult before it feels like a threat, and the strange proposal that the behind-the-scenes might be the real product now. Murugiah is the illustrator of the moment. He has a debut solo exhibition at the Quentin Blake Centre for Illustration and a client list that runs from Apple to Elton John. But the thing he's proudest of isn't a brand commission. It's a painting of a broken figure being told it's going to be okay — the most personal thing he's made, and the image he's chosen to lead the whole show with. Grant is an Ivor Novello and World Soundtrack Award winning Scottish composer who has created the soundtrack for video games that have sold in excess of 40 million copies. From “GoldenEye” to “Banjo-Kazooie”, “Viva Piñata” to “Donkey Kong”, “Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning” to “Civilization: Beyond Earth” and “Perfect Dark” to “Castle of Illusion starring Mickey Mouse”. He’s worked on “Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle”, “Yooka Laylee”, “Dropzone”, “Ghostbusters”, and in 2020/21 “World of Warcraft: Shadowlands” and “Minecraft Dungeons”. He is also the composer of the infamous “Donkey Kong Rap” from the Nintendo video game “Donkey Kong 64”, which was featured in the recent “Super Mario Bros. movie”. He has also scored the feature film “The King’s Daughter” starring Pierce Brosnan and William Hurt, which won The People’s Vote at The World Soundtrack Awards Grant’s score for “Viva Piñata” was nominated by BAFTA in the Original Score category in its 2007 awards. Grant is a graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music in the UK. He is an American citizen and lives in Agoura Hills with his wife and two children. After graduating from Pascack Hills High School in Montvale, New Jersey, he attended the Institute of Audio Research. His first job in the industry was at Greene Street Recording and from there, he went on to work as a cutting assistant at Trutone Records. In 1985, Gehringer joined Tom Coyne and Herbie Powers at Frankford-Wayne Mastering and mastered primarily dance and R&B records throughout the 1980s. In 1988, he moved to the Hit Factory and in his 12 years there, mastered many landmark releases in Rap and Hip-Hop, including records by Naughty By Nature, Mobb Deep, Wu Tang Clan and PM Dawn.
