Joe’s builders have broken a light, so before recording the pod he gave them the frosty treatment when they arrived to fix it. Well, sort of - because when David questions him on the details, he doesn’t sound that convinced about how he handled it. Moving on, David then tells Joe about being embarrassed when he listened back to one of their recent episodes, explains that he’s still got a bit of a dodgy tummy and recounts a recent family meal in a very busy pub that he had to abandon because of it. Then the two of them discuss more old jobs they used to have, like cleaning offices and being a barman. David’s feeling a little off today and thinks he might be getting some tummy trouble. So Joe takes the conversational lead and tells him about wanting to be liked by people, inspired by seeing his gym instructor getting a nice compliment from a customer. Then David has an idea to tell Joe about his Inspector Lindley audition, in as much detail as possible. The only problem is, Joe reckons David’s told that story on the pod plenty of times before. But he kicks off regardless, before quickly being completely sidetracked talking about the nasty old couple he gardened for at the time and the girl he really fancied when he was 12, who lived in the same area. To kick today’s episode off, Joe’s gone down to the beach for a swim. So David joins him there on Zoom and gives us a running commentary about how Joe’s getting on in the sea. It’s a lovely way to start the show - but the two of them soon loose confidence in the idea and Joe returns home to continue the episode. Once there, he recounts a recent shameful incident to David involving his car and a very drunk person with a stick. The two of them then remember a few other stories about loosing their rags and seeing the ‘red mist’. It’s all very embarrassing indeed. So here it is, the conclusion of David’s wonderful story about the summer in his teens when he played cricket for Sussex. We pick things up with him at the crease for an important tour match in Jersey. Then, after that’s all wrapped up, Joe the tells David about the time he very unexpectedly got himself a try-out at his local semi-pro football club.
