Beyond the Numbers of Retirement

In this episode I take a look at a recent blog I wrote, The Missing Piece In Most Retirement Advice.  The format for this episode, just me- no guest. This is the new format I want to experiment with in 2020, to provide actionable information you can use to begin creating a vision for your retirement. More interviews coming too, that format will continue.

In this episode, my guest and fellow retirement coach, Gary Allen Foster and I discuss three things to do to make a successful retirement transition. These three things are not the common things you typically read about- yet they are vitally important. We also discuss why these are important and talk about some terms that you may or may not have heard before and are good to know.

In the second part of my conversation with author Carrie Wrigley, she shares a few of the tools in her new book- Your Happiness Toolkit- 16 Strategies for Overcoming Depression and Building a Joyful, Fulfilling Life.  The tools and strategies she lays out in the book are extremely helpful if you are having difficulty with your retirement transition- it isn't the way you thought it would be, or you have not retired yet and want to make sure your retirement is the happiest time of your life.  Isn't that the way it is supposed to be!

My interview with author, Marianne Oesher, about her new book, Your Happiness for Retirement. We talk about what makes up and how to create a 'Happiness Portfolio' that has nothing to do with money.  The book helps the reader create a plan for all of the non-financial areas of your life for a happy and successful retirement.

Our mindset is a powerful determinant in how we perceive ourselves and the circumstances in our lives. It is the attitudes and beliefs we hold that help us sort out what is happening in our life and how we handle or respond these situations.  My guest, retirement coach and author, Marianne Oehser, shares how we can have a growth mindset as opposed to a fixed mindset, shifting our mindset, developing a 'Euphoric' mindset vs a Gloom-and-Doom mindset, and how to control the 'background music' that often alters our mindset negatively.

We have the ability move to another location in retirement more than any previous generation.  Many of us have travelled or lived in other locations so we are comfortable with settling down on a new location.  Sometimes, we have dreamed about living in and exploring a different location.  Whatever our reasons, travel options and technology allows us to live comfortably in a different part of the United States or even internationally.  However, with so many options, deciding where to live includes a myriad of things to consider.  My guest, Susan Ackley shares some things to consider when making this decision.

Retirement coach and author, Doug Passanisi, discusses being forced to leave a position he had worked at for nearly 20 years. Learn some of the challenges he faced and how he worked through them. He suddenly realized he was 60, retired, and vulnerable along with being single without a partner to share his thoughts and emotions. Doug shares some of the keys he used to make a successful transition to a new chapter in his life.
