Horcock has told his old Confederate colleagues he wants nothing to do with them. He won't help them against  revenger vigilantes from the 31st Infantry, so why won't they leave town? After riding hard in the hope of catching Picker up, Marion arrives in Albuquerque. He impresses the local sheriff when he reports the dead men, Rayburn and Gilchrist, who he and Jimmy found on the trail.
