Eating Disorders, Recovery Through Embodiment & Alchemising Trauma Into Healing With Maria Guiñazu
“This is a journey to turn tragedy into something beautiful. And tragedy is complex and it's difficult and it's horrible. ~ Maria Guiñazu
In the fifth episode of The I’mperfect Podcast, I am joined by Maria Guiñazu.
Join us in this episode, as we sit down together to create a safe container to share our own personal journeys with eating disorders -- how embodiment practices held us in receiving our insights and medicine, and how to hold space for the imperfect moments that come in recovery.
I found such deep healing in recording this episode and I hope this episode can serve as a gentle reminder that you are worthy of receiving your own healing.
On that note, let's step into the perfectly imperfect space.
Maria is a psychologist from Argentina and also trained at Tamalpa Institute in California, the internationally recognised training centre for movement-based expressive arts therapy. At the moment, she is doing a doctorate in Psychotherapy and Counselling Psychology at NSPC/ Middlesex University.
Maria’s work intersects the fields of expressive arts, somatics and psychotherapy. She worked at Amy Winehouse Foundation in East London and Oasis Project in Brighton where she gave expressive somatic art sessions to women as part of their recovery from addictions and eating disorders.
Alongside her studies, she is working on a pilot project on complex domestic abuse in Sussex. She has also recently started a project, The Embodiment Corner, where she offers group sessions online combining movement, dance, writing and drawing to explore personal and collective themes.
